Depression does not have a specific shape, form or identity. It is omnipresent and can even weigh in even on some of the best individuals out in the world. NASCAR driver, Bubba Wallace is an example of that. Despite giving out his career-best performances with a #10 finish in the Cup Series, Wallace encountered a feeling of emptiness. He even shared it publicly with his fans online after the end of the last season.

It takes a lot of courage and bravery for an individual to come out in speak about their flaws and Wallace has rightly done that. Not everyone has the best of days every day and that was the case with the 30-year-old after last season’s finale race. For very few of us who know how vulnerable and lonely the feeling of depression is, Wallace has opened the door for dialogue once again and shed light on how to deal with it.

The series of events started when Wallace returned home from the Phoenix finale race. Taking to social media, he posted about feeling no emotions after the final race of the season. Despite his good friend Ryan Blaney winning the championship, it could not lift his spirits. However, the No.23 from 23X1 recently spoke about his dark days from the last season and also encouraged people to seek help.

Speaking alongside his buddy Blaney on a show by Today on YouTube, Wallace said, “I don’t know when he said, Chase Elliot won the championship, he went into depression. So I guess when your best friends win the championships you don’t, it sends you down a dark path. We’re all human beings, we all have feelings, we all have bills to pay and the color of our blood is the same. So we go through real stuff, no matter what kind of spotlight you are in.”

“I never knew it was such a stigma to talk about it but it’s actually brave to come out and talk about it. I have no problems of telling what my feelings are and I usually get into trouble for that. But it helps a lot of people and I’ve never realized that until now. So when you have your off days which happens more time than not, relay the info and hopefully help somebody.”

Fortunately for Bubba Wallace, he has got all the support and help he needs from his wife Amanda.

Wallace’s wife Amanda has been with him throughout his battles

Being alone and empty is a dark place to be. And Wallace was up against it at the end of the season. In such grim moments, support and care are prominent remedial forces that can help ease the pain. And luckily for Wallace, it was her wife Amanda. While sharing his battles with depression he also spoke highly about her wife Amanda’s love and care and he rightly acknowledged it once again.

“For sure Amanda has a huge rock and you know got through one year of marriage. And it’s really been fun to getting to grow in life with her and show her the ins and outs of the sport. And just be there as somebody to talk to.” Needless to say, Bubba Wallace’s show of strength has inspired many to take a concrete approach to dealing with depression. And if we are to go by his message, seeking support and speaking out does help.
