It’s not unusual for NASCAR fans to criticize NASCAR for the decisions it takes. But usually, the criticism is only limited to one-half of the base. Very rarely you will see an occasion on which almost all the fans turn against the very sport they support.

Seems like one of those rare occasions is here.

The thing is, ahead of the All-Star Race this weekend, Texas Motor Speedway announced Donald Trump-backed controversial Governor Greg Abbott as the ‘Honorary’ Starter for the race.

Abbott’s announcement led to an entire flood of negative reactions from the fans. Some of them were critical of the fact that while NASCAR had earlier insisted on not mixing sports with politics, a Governor’s inclusion, and at that, a controversial one’s, was quite hypocritical.

While some fans simply wished bad luck for Texas Motor Speedway and claimed they’d boycott the race.

Two of the biggest names from the NASCAR Cup Series criticize the All-Star Race

Hendrick Motorsports #5 driver and defending Cup Series champion, Kyle Larson recently pointed out the one thing he feels should be changed about the All-Star race.

“I know there’s a lot of logistics and a lot of stuff that goes into it,” Larson said of the ever-changing format. “But I feel like the championship race and the All-Star race would be fun to see move around,” he added.

While the other Hendrick star, Chase Elliott also argued in similar waters as he explained that the race in itself was designed to “move around” and gives fans in different regions a special event.

To be clear here, part of the reason Elliott mentioned a move away from Texas is that he hasn’t been successful at the Texas Motor Speedway himself. However, his argument is still valid.
