Moments before the race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Team Penske speedster Joey Logano had revealed his opinions on NASCAR’s latest decision to host both the Food City 300 and Bass Pro Shops Night race at the half-mile concrete racetrack. In other words, dirt racing is not coming back to Bristol in 2024. While the entire community was polarized, Joey Logano was indifferent. After all, he has been the reigning champion at the track and won the inaugural dirt race back in 2021.

However, Saturday night ended miserably for the 33-year-old driver. After a point reset, Logano is now out of the playoff contention and sits below Bubba Wallace under the cutline, with 2071 points. Disappointed as ever, he blamed himself for the situation that the number 22 team is in today.

Bristol is a track where you can get caught up in other people’s problems. And that is exactly what happened with Joey Logano. As Corey LaJoie lost control of his #7 Chevy and spun in lap 262, Joey Logano was behind him on full throttle. Failing to veer away from the obstacle in front of him, Logano ran straight into LaJoie and damaged his rear right wheel. Later, he drove his car to the pit road to get it fixed. However, the damage was way too much to just fix on the pit road. This left the unlucky driver with a 34th-place finish.

Anything can happen going forward in the playoff format. Other drivers who are now in the playoff contention might fall behind, giving Logano a chance to redeem his spot. Joey Logano prayed for the same. During a post-race interview, he told the reporters what he lacked during the closing race of the round of 16.

“Speed,” he said, “Just a lot of things. We?re not out yet. As much as it feels like I?m out at the moment, there?s still a long way to go in this race and things can happen to the competitors that are out there.”

As much as it is not a good thing to wish for the misfortune of others, it is all that the Connecticut native can wish for. He admitted, “It?s kind of our only hope at the moment. It?s what happens. You don?t go fast enough, you?re in the back and they wreck in front of you at Bristol on a restart. And you?re going so fast that you can?t whoa up or turn or do anything and you get kind of pile drove into the wreck.”

“It?s our own fault,” he added with regret resonating in his voice.

The luck of Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano seemed to have turned turtle this year. Back in 2014, it was just the opposite for these two NASCAR Cup drivers.

Let’s wind the clock 9 years back, shall we? Joey Logano joined the triple winners club by seizing his third win of the year at Bristol Motor Speedway. Logano grabbed the lead from Matt Kenseth just past the 100-lap mark and held off his then-teammate Brad Keselowski to ace the race.

However, for Denny Hamlin, the night was not so good. Despite taking the lead for the first time in the race by the virtue of a two-tire change, Stewart-Haas Racing driver Kevin Harvick spun him out just as they entered Turn 1. The number 11 Toyota Camry bounced off the inside wall. Coming off his ride, Hamlin took his head and neck support device and hurled it at Harvick. However, he had cooled down by the time he appeared before the media.

According to 10News, Denny Hamlin said, “I’m frustrated because we had a good run going… mistakes happen in racing. Obviously, I believe Kevin made a mistake, and that’s part of it. I was on the short end of the stick.”
