Ford dominating the tracks to earn their 9th consecutive victory at Michigan was surely a sight for sore eyes. The Ford teams, for the past few weekends, have delivered an indomitable performance as many of their drivers parked their cars within the top 10. However, if the two consecutive race weekends in Richmond and Michigan are considered, it is the two-driver team RFK Racing that has come stronger than before and is worthy of adulation.

Both Chris Buescher and Brad Keselowski delivered impeccable performances and have surely earned the bragging rights to be a title contender and be on par with Team Penske and Stewart-Haas Racing. Nonetheless, the delayed race on the track of Michigan will be surely remembered by the victor Chris Buescher for years to come, as he learned a huge lesson from one of the veterans of NASCAR.

In the dramatic unfolding of events, Buescher and Martin Truex Jr surely engaged in a fierce nail-biting competition and jockeyed for the lead. There were instances when both the drivers raced door-to-door against each other, with the JGR driver trying to outlast Buescher. However, sparks were visible under the Toyota car, which forced Truex Jr to lose a few seconds and eventually fail to race up against the RFK Racing driver.

However, Martin Truex Jr had the opportunity to change the tide of the race through the means of foul play. But apparently, he chose to race hard and on merits. This instance surely reinforced the fact, it’s not about winning titles but also racing in a respectable manner.

Even the victor of the race acknowledged the notion in his post-race interview. Buescher was asked, “When Martin got under you there with 12 to go, a lot of side drafting, you were loose in turn one, what was that like from your seat?”

To this, Buescher retorted, “Yeah, knew that was going to be really tough. Where they were so good was just wrapping the bottom. I seen it yesterday in the race. We talked about it when we went in the rain delay, that felt like the 19 was probably the car to beat.”

“Was just able to maneuver, get through traffic very well. Knowing that, we had to commit to a little bit higher, kind of a low mid lane to make our minimum lap time to try to make max speed. That was letting him get enough clean air to get really close to us at times,” Buescher added.

Continuing on the same lines, the Ford driver asserted, “Just worked to try and cover as best we could. That one I missed, he got a good run down the bottom, I just didn’t pull the car down the hill far enough, and he was able to pull up on our quarter panel there. I knew that was going to be a very difficult move to defend.”

“Fortunately at that moment, we were close enough to the tail end of the field that we were able to pull a little bit of draft from the outside lane. I guess probably on the unfortunate side, it’s probably also the reason we lost some speed, being that little bit of dirty air. Probably got that a little bit tight.”

“Yeah, I mean, it hurt us to get in that position, but also helped pull us out of it. Truex is a very clean racer. Try to live by that same mindset ourselves so that we can get into those situations and have that level of respect where we’re going to be able to race hard and race clean and get a win out of it but say that we worked for it,” Buescher concluded.
