Aside from its signature oval track racing format, NASCAR is also known for the on-track paint-trading action between drivers. To take the excitement quotient up a notch, NASCAR introduced stages to its races, which would also increase the chances of spin-outs or wrecks. With last weekend’s HighPoint.com 400 Cup Series race giving the NASCAR community lots to rave about, Dale Earnhardt Jr recently delivered a controversial statement.

Dale Jr was seen contradicting his own opinion on Hamlin-Larson on-track contact.

Denny Hamlin’s final stage tango with Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman and Kyle Larson became a highly debated topic in the NASCAR world. Calling out the HMS duo for wrecking themselves, Hamlin was subjected to a lot of internet slander from fans. Kyle Larson also spoke up about the events, warning Hamlin about unfinished business.

In a recent Dale Jr Download podcast episode, Dale Jr and co-host Mike Davis discussed the Pocono Raceway events. “We need exactly what we got yesterday. We need that. We need that villain. We need contact and confrontation”, Junior said. To this, Davis added, “Somebody’s got to do it.”

Junior went on to say, “God dang man. When it ain’t there, good Lord it’s boring, I’m sorry. When there ain’t nothing going, when you don’t give a crap about the two-three guys up there battling for the lead and they are three car lengths apart all day, and letting each other pass, driving by each other cleanly and not even really putting up a fight. I mean, that’s where we were not long ago.”

What we got right not man, it ain’t scripted. This is real, this is authentic. This is literally, exactly what I love about NASCAR. Maybe it’s just me, I grew up in the 80s watching Dad (Dale Earnhardt) run over everybody, and we loved it! ‘Hey, he’s catching that guy. Watch him put the bumper to his a**’. We freaking wanted it, we expected it”, the Pied Piper of Daytona added, delivering a controversial statement. “You Knew it was coming?”, Mike Davis asked.

“Yes! We couldn’t wait for it. And man, when he passed up without hitting ‘em it was disappointing. You’re like ‘Damn man, what’s up with that?’ I mean there’s a little seriousness to that”, Dale Jr responded with excitement in his voice.

Expanding on Junior’s controversial statement, Mike Davis said, “This goes back to the thing, this is NASCAR’s identity, whether you like it or not.”

Speaking on his podcast, Junior said, “It was a dirty move to door him, to throttle up and just door him…It’s not how you would expect friends to race friends, but maybe that friendship, which I’ve seen this, and I’ve been part of this on the race track; when you got buddies you use them up. ”
