Be it motorsports or any other discipline, supporters do not like to hear the news or the potential of their favorite athlete calling it quits. Retirement is inevitable for every sportsman and NASCAR drivers are no different. At the same time, there have been exceptions like Kevin Harvick and a few others who still managed to go beyond the so-called age barrier. In recent years, there has been a growing trend among NASCAR drivers that they retire until the age of 42. However, Kyle Larson is one who is still far from that mark.

Retirement in itself is not big of a deal until it happens but the NASCAR community likes to take things overboard when they get a sniff of it and this is what happened with Kyle Larson. The Hendrick Motorsports No.5 has been outspoken about his preferences, with dirt car racing being at the top. It is understood that Larson will have different commitments when he retires from Cup racing and this was once again confirmed in the show Kenny Conversation.

This is not the first time Larson has expressed his thoughts of wanting something more than racing Cup Series. Remember when he received backlash for wanting to win the Chili Bowl more than the Daytona 500? It can be said that Chili Bowl is certainly closer to his heart than the Cup races. “I guess, to my heart, whatever, however you want to describe it, Chili Bowl just personally means a little bit more. I’m not the only person [to feel that way].” Larson said during the dirt track event.

Before coming to a judgment one also has to look past his NASCAR image. For a guy who grew up wanting to star in sprint car racing, is it justified to call him out suggesting he does not appreciate the NASCAR Cup Series and that he is in it for money? Even if he is, it is well deserved on the back of a decade-long action and entertainment that he provided the fans. Not everyone in this world works a day job that aligns with their passion and this can be said about Larson as well.

He certainly has his hands full when it comes to racing experiences. It has to be noted he will also feature at the Indy 500 making him the fifth driver to complete ‘The Double’ by racing in the 500 and then NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the same day. So it looks like his childhood aspirations are now coming true as he is also working on an ambitious project of running the sprint car series named ‘High Limit Racing’.
