Earlier this week, news broke that Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) sold most of its stock to GMS Racing. This means that the team is joining the Cup arena and have recruited Ty Dillon in its #42 car. Recently, RPM owner/founder Richard Petty was spotted at a fast-food restaurant called Hardee’s.
Petty had turned up to one of the restaurant joints and sampled one of its burgers. Speculations were rife that he is eyeing the brand as a potential sponsor. After all, celebrities like Richard Petty don’t really make public posts featuring brands unless there is some monetary benefit involved, professional or personal.
Just prior to that, the team was renamed Petty GMS Motorsports. Both teams merged together instead of being two separate teams and the initial #94 was changed to #42.

All in all, everyone is pretty excited about this partnership to take off and be successful. Obviously, the cash injection will be incredibly helpful in aiding the team in vaulting up the championship order. Apart from that, Ty Dillon and Erik Jones are pretty talented drivers and will be great for Petty GMS Motorsports.

What’s next for Richard Petty and his team?
As per reports, GMS Racing purchased the stock for $19 million for a majority stake in the team. Truthfully, many saw GMS Racing’s promotion coming from a mile away. This is because they made the announcement and recruited Ty Dillon earlier this year.

With the two teams now merged into one, they can benefit from having more personnel and two cars. Without a doubt, the presence of a second car can be a big boost in the championship. Additionally, Jones’ experience will also be useful for Dillon, who will be eager to learn from his new teammate for the 2022 Cup Series season.
