In an intriguing development, iRacing, renowned for its PC simulation racing game, has secured the rights from Motorsport Games to craft a NASCAR racing simulation for gaming consoles. The revelation, disclosed in a recent press release, signifies a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between NASCAR and iRacing. Notably, the press release highlights that they are already collaborating on virtual races within the iRacing platform, attracting a substantial daily participation of thousands of enthusiasts. Now, their collective efforts are aimed at producing a NASCAR game tailored for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam, with an anticipated release in 2025.
Tony Gardner, President of iRacing, expressed his commitment to this venture, stating, “Having the ability to build a NASCAR console game is a privilege we promise to execute with the utmost care. We look forward to working diligently with NASCAR industry stakeholders to deliver a product that provides an amazing experience for the gaming community and NASCAR fans worldwide.”
The acquisition represents a significant expansion of iRacing’s already considerable footprint in the realm of NASCAR. Their association with NASCAR traces its origins back to 2010 when they introduced a licensed sim racing product. Over the years, iRacing has evolved into a crucial technical partner of NASCAR, earning the distinguished title of “official simulation partner.”
Besides, even the revered NASCAR icon Dale Earnhardt Jr has shared his insights and excitement regarding the latest initiative from the NASCAR camp. Junior remarked, “I have been in a conversation with the iRacing about their vision, and it’s absolutely what you’d expect. There’s some realism. So the console side of it has to appeal to a very general wide audience. So, I think that they are going to nail the target,” conveying his confidence in the project.
It’s worth noting that while iRacing is venturing into this domain, they are not the first to create console games for NASCAR. Over the years, NASCAR has seen multiple games developed by the likes of EA Sports and Papyrus Design Group, dating back to as early as 1994.

In a remarkable transition, EA Sports secured the NASCAR license, embarking on a journey to craft their own distinctive gaming experiences. The gaming console platforms, including the Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and Nintendo 64, soon played host to a series of iconic titles such as NASCAR 98, NASCAR 99, and NASCAR 2000. These games captured the imagination of a burgeoning fan base, quickly ascending to widespread popularity. As the years unfolded, the realm of PC gaming was also embraced, further solidifying the connection between NASCAR and gaming enthusiasts.
The culmination of this era occurred in 2009 with the release of NASCAR 09, a testament to EA Sports’ enduring dedication to the NASCAR gaming community. However, the subsequent chapters of this narrative were marked by transitions and new beginnings. Regrettably, EA Sports decided not to continue the series, citing dwindling sales, and in 2013, the NASCAR license reached its expiration date. This pivotal juncture paved the way for British game developer Eutechnyx, which embarked on a brief yet impactful stint, giving birth to NASCAR-based games like NASCAR The Game: 2011.
Fast forward to 2016, and Dusenberry Martin Racing took the reins of the NASCAR license. In 2017, the company underwent a rebranding, emerging as 704Games, a name synonymous with the racing gaming community. The journey continued, reaching new heights in 2021 when Motorsports Games acquired 704Games. To date, this journey has culminated in two remarkable game releases: NASCAR 21: Ignition and NASCAR Ultimate Heat Edition+. The future now stands poised on the precipice of exciting possibilities.
