NASCAR has forever stood its ground, maintaining a firm hand when it comes to upholding media decorum, combating substance misuse, or curbing verbal missteps in the public domain. And despite the strict rule and regulations enforced by NASCAR, generally, the teams pull out all the stops to get their driver back on track in haste. Yet Noah Gragson‘s recent predicament has cast a shadow of doubt, making both spectators and NASCAR insiders wonder, “Was the indefinite benching truly warranted?”

The DBC pundits dove deep into this conundrum, endeavoring to sift through the ramifications of Gragson’s suspension. Moreover, they put their thinking caps on to speculate about his road ahead while drawing parallels between the suspensions of Kyle Larson and Gragson, striving for a balanced perspective.

Suspensions in NASCAR are par for the course, with racers often facing the music if they’re caught deliberately putting fellow competitors in a jam. Yet, it’s a rare bird when drivers are sidelined for deeds outside the NASCAR arena. Case in point: the recent indefinite benching of Noah Gragson, a decision made by Legacy Motor Sports and underscored by NASCAR with a formal notice on their official site.

This verdict, however, raised a few eyebrows, not just among the fan base but also among seasoned NASCAR connoisseurs like Brett Griffin, Freddie Kraft, and TJ Majors. On their DBC podcast, the trio contemplated whether Gragson’s suspension wasn’t a bridge too far. While they green-lit the notion of Gragson attending sensitivity training and resuming his duties, the open-ended nature of his suspension left them scratching their heads.

In the debate, one mused, “This is a mistake on his part. Should it be a career-ending mistake? Not in my mind. He is 25 years old. I think he was being reckless on social media, what he really realized or what he was liking, but nonetheless, this is a big enough mistake. Do I think Noah Gragson should be suspended by Legacy Motor Club? I don’t know, because I don’t know everything that they know. […] To me, all that he needs to do is get sensitivity training and get reinstated—how long is that process, because that’s how long he should have been suspended?”

Drawing parallels with yesteryear, they recalled Kyle Larson’s 2020 gaffe during an iRacing event, where he remarked, “You can’t hear me? Hey, n—-r,” leading to his suspension from NASCAR. Yet Larson, after facing the music, bounced back stronger than ever.

Brett Griffin opined, “We have seen the guys not long ago who came back and won a championship. Not that I am comparing the skill levels of Gragson and Kyle Larson. Kyle made a mistake; he did the best he could to rectify that mistake and came back stronger, and that is what Noah kind of has a baseline coming there.”

The DBC hosts, on the whole, seemed bullish about Gragson’s return, contingent on his sponsors staying in his corner.

The grapevine in DBC suggests that all’s not lost for Noah Gragson, provided his sponsors don’t jump ship. Freddie Kraft voiced his optimism, holding that Gragson’s racing story might not have reached its final chapter.

He candidly opined, “To this point, if these sponsors back away and they say Hey! We don’t want any part in this either; there’s a good chance you don’t see him again. […] Noah is going to have to have some money behind him to get an opportunity, I think.”
