Before the start of the season, Kevin Harvick announced 2023 would be his last season in NASCAR as a driver. Harvick is one of the last veterans there are in the sport. And after he goes, the list of those who have been around for a while will grow even shorter.

But that list could take another major hit if one other veteran chooses to not come back in 2024. In fact, he is someone who’s had the cloud of retirement hover around his head for a while, someone who himself didn’t explicitly clear his mind on this subject.

That someone is Martin Truex Jr.

However, with his recent win at Dover, there could be some changes in the weather, at least according to two NASCAR insiders.

NASCAR Insiders argue why Martin Truex Jr. won’t just retire at the end of 2023

In a recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, spotters Brett Griffin and TJ Majors were asked whether they see Truex coming back for 2024, and if so, what will it take for him.

“I think if he’s having fun he comes back,” Griffin said, to which Majors added, “Yeah, why wouldn’t you?”

Having said that, Griffin described why no one would know what’s on Truex’s mind until the driver himself wants them to know.

“He’s really quiet, he’s really laid back. He’s not gonna tell you what the hell he is doing, I can promise you that until he is a 100% knows. But I think if Martin Truex is having fun like he did yesterday and like he did the year he won a championship, I could see him coming back,” Griffin reasoned.

“I agree, I mean if you’re having fun, you’re not going to quit. He’s probably decently paid, multi-champion still winning races, I’m probably not quitting,” Majors added.

As for his brother, Ryan Truex, who also won a race at Dover, Majors claimed he’d need to find more funding to sustain his career in NASCAR. The spotter added that his Dover win alone won’t cut it, that he may need two or three more wins to get to full-time status.

Ahead of this year’s Daytona 500, Truex Jr. was asked about his retirement decision to which he quickly responded by claiming even he doesn’t know what the next year will look like for him.

“No idea. No idea. Literally, no idea. I’m not even lying,” he said as per Sportsnaut. “I’m going to make that decision when the time comes. Until then, I’m going to work my (expletive) off and try to win a bunch of races.”

“If that’s the case and that’s happening, then I’ll probably be back…pretty simple, really.”

With that said, do you see Truex coming back in 2024? Or do you think he’ll his Bass Pro Shops gear to the lake for fishing instead of the racetracks?
