Currently, the biggest talking point in the NASCAR Cup Series is driver safety. With a brand new car, there were always going to be concerns, and now it seems that the concerns are justified. He said, “Where I’m struggling with this is, Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski are, in my mind, identical situations. They’re both exceptional race car drivers, they’re both part-team owners. Yet, publicly, they are on opposite sides of the spectrum, in the way that they’re approaching this.”

For his part, Hamlin has been particularly aggressive in his stance. In fact, he launched a very scathing attack on NASCAR and called for them to be replaced entirely. Keselowski on the other hand cut them some slack because of the ongoing pandemic. Since there were so many restrictions, there was not enough real-world testing. That being said, Griffin noted the two sides of the same coin.
He said, “I’m not saying one’s right, one’s wrong, but when you look at Brad and Denny. Brad is kissing NASCAR’s a**, for lack of a better word and Denny is coming at NASCAR’s a**, for the things that he has concerns about. I don’t know how two people in identical situations can be so different in their approach.”

He does have a point because both Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski are team owners as well as drivers. In essence, they both know the struggles as a driver and as team owners. So Griffin is baffled that both drivers have such differing opinions on the same subject.
