Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski’s two seasons in his driver/owner role at RFK Racing have left the community in awe following the team’s stellar 2023 campaign. Unlike the Ford powerhouse and four-car team, SHR, Keselowski’s two-car team did more than expected, outshining Tony Stewart’s team and picking up three emphatic wins to get both of its drivers past the regular season.

RFK Racing’s resurgence was a befitting reply to Ford’s naysayers, a tight slap silencing the detractors. In the wake of the 2024 season, the Cup Series veteran has yet again stunned the community, this time with a huge expansion announcement, straying away from traditional NASCAR circles to tease fans about a plausible IMSA entry. With NASCAR’s Xfinity and Truck Series programs becoming interchangeable, Brad Keselowski‘s supercar postulation has popular YouTubers siding with him as he goes against the grain, planning for something radical.

Kyle Larson & HMS Are Planning to Return to Indy 500 Next Year. But Should They?

Yes! It Is Great for NASCAR

No, It Was a Disaster This Time

There has been a lot of smoke since NASCAR introduced its revolutionary and critical Next-Gen platform, taking inspiration from Supercars and adopting it into stock cars. While these new-generation cars are a step in the positive direction in terms of driver safety, they have also shaken the sport to its core, prompting 2012 Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski to look at it from a different lens.

Moreover, with the organization’s Xfinity and Truck Series platforms more or less becoming interchangeable, the team led by Brad Keselowski has something radical planned. While teams like Spire Motorsports are on a buying spree, taking over Kyle Busch’s Truck Series team, Brad Keselowski has his eyes set on IMSA (a supercar promotion undertaken by NASCAR) instead of taking the regular Xfinity/Truck Series route.

According to Autoweek, he made it clear, saying, “As NASCAR continues to get heavier and heavier into road course racing, I think IMSA offers a lot of advantages to the ecosystem of a successful Cup team; I do not see us on a path to an Xfinity or Truck team in the near future.” The whole community was stunned following the massive revelation, with many disappointed to see the team not returning to Xfinity any time soon.

On the flip side, popular YouTuber Eric Estepp made lemonade out of lemons, shining a light on the positive side of things. Siding with Brad Keselowski, he said, “For years, we considered, like, late models, ARCA, then you jump into Trucks, then to Xfinity, then to Cup; that was sort of the progressive pipeline.”

“In recent years, with the Next-Gen car racing more similar to the trucks, maybe the lines to The Truck and Xfinity series have become blurred. Brad Keselowski suggested that that’s not in the cards for us: ‘Hey, we’re not even looking on this tree; we’re looking over here at IMSA as a way to develop our drivers to learn something that can be applied to the NASCAR Cup Series.'”

Following in the footsteps of Justin Marks and Richard Childress, Brad Keselowski and his team have also roped in Australian Supercar sensation and Ford driver Cam Waters for select races in 2024. Waters looks to join 2023 Supercar champion Brodie Kostecki, who will be racing for RCR in NASCAR as part of RFK Racing’s three-race plan. The 29-year-old wants to join Shane van Gisbergen, making a full-time switch to NASCAR, and Kostecki as a road course race guest driver.
