Achieving glory in the Cup Series is a monumental challenge for any NASCAR driver. But for Bubba Wallace, that challenge has somehow always found its way out of the track and onto social media. During the Daytona 500 weekend, not only was Wallace the centre of the community’s angst after pulling Rajah Caruth away from the cameras for a conversation but an innocent prank he played on his cameraman in the plane also backfired, with many lashing out at Wallace. While the community has wasted no time jumping in to defend the 23XI racer, things have gone so far that even an established insider had to point out the unwarranted hate Wallace is so used to receiving online.

Jeff Gluck commends Bubba Wallace for Daytona shenanigans at the expense of unwarranted haters

With the Great American Race taking the NASCAR world by storm earlier this week, all eyes were on the Daytona 500 and its festivities. And while those who stayed at home wouldn’t have a great sense of how things run throughout the day for a driver, Bubba Wallace shared a well-thought-out video on X that covered what a “Day in the Life of a Daytona 500 NASCAR driver” looked like.

While Wallace was aiming to kick-start the season strong with his Camry XSE, fans were equally delighted to get an inside view into how things go for drivers, including veteran insider Jeff Gluck. However, Gluck was also well aware of the hatred Wallace has been receiving as of late, and couldn’t help but throw a little shade at the Wallace haters. Gluck stated, “This is a really cool view of things. (Prob gonna have to mute my mentions for saying something positive related to Bubba, but worth it for this.)”

After all, things had gotten so bad with Wallace’s hatred that the man himself had to drop a sarcastic comment on X to silence the manufactured hate once and for all. Unfortunately, it seems like there will still always be a few that will keep attacking the 23XI racer’s camp without mercy. To further solidify his point, Gluck also shared a funny incident that highlighted the situation with this unwarranted hatred.

Gluck stated, “Along these lines, still laughing about the tweet Bubba recalled seeing this week (and told the story on DBC). Someone basically said, “Bubba Wallace could get on Twitter and say ‘F— Bubba Wallace’ and people would still be mad at him.” And that’s exactly what happened with Wallace’s sarcastic comment.

While it’s safe to say that more of the community is finally turning their attention toward the unnecessary hate Wallace has been getting for years, the 23XI racer is channelling all his energy toward the 2024 season.

Bubba Wallace ended last season with a lot to say about missing out on the title while his best friend, Ryan Blaney, walked away with the trophy. But it seems like all the progress within the 23XI Racing camp has really led to a confidence boost for the 30-year-old. After all, 2023 was the first time Wallace made it into the Cup Series playoffs, advancing into the round of 12 and ending the season on a high with a 10th-place finish.

Reflecting on the 2023 season, Wallace shared with NASCAR, “I think going into last year, I was like, ‘Man, we finished that playoff run with the 45 really, really strong’. Like it’s going to happen again, and I was forcing it too much. It’s a fine line. You can’t just sit back and let it come to you because that’s not how the sport works. You have to go out and earn it, but I think just having a different mindset like I talked about earlier – just being aggressive, being confident. Self-confidence is what’s going to yield the results for us.”

For a long time, all the unwanted hate seemed to bother Bubba Wallace, but now that the 30-year-old is bubbling with confidence, the 2024 season could be a different ballgame altogether. With that said, do you think Wallace can live up to the expectations laid out by Denny Hamlin clearly in the Netflix series?
