Trackhouse Racing, the NASCAR Cup Series team owned by Justin Marks and Pitbull has been, more or less, the story of the season so far. The team has already won two races with Ross Chastain behind the wheel, and they’re not looking to slow down anytime soon.
This intent of theirs, to succeed and to make waves in the sport, was all the more cemented after they announced Project 91 which would field drivers in select races in order to push their brand, and naturally, the brand of NASCAR internationally.
The intersection of NASCAR and global motorsports culture has arrived.

The first candidate for Project 91 is Kimi Raikkonen, who will race at Watkin Glens. But could we see another driver from Formula 1, a certain Marcus Ericsson who recently won the INDY 500, be a part of Project 91?
“I would love to do it. That would be amazing to get the chance to try that and do a race. That would be super cool,” Ericsson said about the same. “Ever since I came to America, I tried to embrace America racing. I love IndyCar. NASCAR is huge here. That would be super cool and definitely would be something I’d be interested in.”
The only thing, apart from the obvious, is that the Swedish driver will have to run it through Chip Ganassi first.
Trackhouse Racing boss knew Kimi Raikkonen would return to NASCAR
In a recent interview, Justin Marks, the co-owner of the Trackhouse Racing team, revealed that he always knew Kimi Raikkonen would come back to NASCAR after getting his first taste of the sport back in 2011.

“I knew that he had an interest in NASCAR and that he’d done it before and thought that maybe if I explained to him what this project was all about maybe he’d be interested in being a part of it,” he said.

So with Kimi Raikkonen on board, with Marcus Ericsson expressing his intent to come on board, do you think Project 91 will achieve its aim? Do you think NASCAR will hit it off in the international market, in places it hasn’t tapped into yet? Let us know in the comments below.
