Since joining Hendrick Motorsports in 2021, Kyle Larson‘s career has witnessed a steady boom. Besides winning the Cup Series title in the same year, he has also made a name in marque dirt track racing events in 2021, including the Chili Bowl, Kings Royal, Prairie Dirt Classic, and the Knoxville Nationals. His recent achievements include the victory at the opening playoff race and a $25000 cheque, marked by a consecutive second-year win at the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. However, what about the times when Kyle Larson is not in the driver’s seat?
Maybe he is a speedster who has absolutely no problem flaunting a 700-horsepower stock car running at 200 mph, but when it comes to strapping himself to the passenger’s seat, the #5 Chevy star is miserable. And more so when his wife Katelyn drives.

Is there any NASCAR fan out there who does not like to indulge in interesting behind-the-scene analogies about their favorite drivers? Probably not. And when The Athletic brought Kyle Larson face to face with their ’12 questions’, the fans got to know why Kyle Larson hates it when his wife drives the car.
Katelyn Larson, formerly Katelyn Sweet is quite adept as a mother of three beautiful kids, Audrey, Owen, and Cooper. But not so when it comes to driving cars, it seems. She rarely drives. But when she does, her husband needs to be fully alert and direct her along the traffic. Quite a spectacle, isn’t it?
The Athletic asked, “Can you describe how you are as a passenger in a street car?”
Despite being the driver most of the time, Larson admitted, “I’m not the passenger too often, but with Katelyn, when I’m the passenger, I’m really bad.”
“With Katelyn, it’s like, “You’re clear, get over” or “Pass these cars.” I’m definitely driving from the passenger seat…” he said.

However great Kyle Larson might be behind the steering of a stock car, but Katelyn does not like what the NASCAR sensation does at NASCAR. And that too, for a very real reason.

It is not a secret how the drivers put a lot on the line while they buckle themselves up for NASCAR’s top-tier races. Even the two-time Xfinity Series champion Dale Earnhardt Jr had a thing about praying before every race that he drove in.
After Stewart-Haas Racing driver Ryan Preece flipped 10 times at Daytona, every NASCAR fan almost held their breaths, expecting the flip to just stop and ensure that the driver came out safely out of his #41 Ford Mustang.
Katelyn Larson perhaps hates it when his husband sits behind the wheel of one such car every weekend, risking his life. After the Ryan Preece incident, she tweeted, “Could be unpopular. But I hate this racing. I am so glad that Ryan was able to get out of his car after that wreck.”

Someone commented, “I bet you do, has to be so nerve wrecking for you all race to have to worry about Kyle.”
While another explained, “Go back to the late 80’s and early 90’s we had some nasty ones just like that. That is why NASCAR for so long worked to keep cars on the ground when they got sideways or backwards at high speeds. Now with the floor of these cars it is like they took 25-30 years of research and flushed it. They need to rip the floor of these cars off. Can’t vent the air to keep them planted, the floor of car just creates lift and they act like Prototypes, F1 cars or Indy Cars. We can’t have that”

A fan agreed with Katelyn, saying, “Despise it. Thank God he is ok!”
Someone just upped the notch and demanded NASCAR to take away Superspeedways entirely from their schedule. They wrote, “I’ll go one further and say they need to take superspeedways off the calendar, so boring.”
A motorsport enthusiast wrote, “I don’t hate it, but I understand being a drivers wife. I love coming to Daytona.”

Well, we cannot say Katelyn is wrong for worrying about her husband. Her husband might be better than her at driving, and possibly be the best in the world of NASCAR right now, but the element of danger surely haunts Katelyn.
