If any individual asks, “Hey Alexa, what’s trending in NASCAR?” the AI-generated voice would reply “Retirement.” The answer is surely not surprising, as Kevin Harvick’s farewell plans seem to have given rise to a domino effect. While Stewart-Haas Racing’s driver news is an established fact, there might be other drivers, on the other hand, who are ready to draw a conclusion.

The 2023 Cup Series season so far seems to reveal its surprises like the nesting dolls and perhaps will continue to do so till the culmination of the season. Nevertheless, it is not the 2023 season that can be blamed for all the retirement plans, as the past season could have witnessed the unexpected departure of one of the veterans of the series.

The man in question was none other than Kyle Busch, as he had lost his primary sponsor M&M’s. Nevertheless, the narrative that ensued after Busch and Joe Gibbs Racing decided to part ways is not an unknown fact. However, it seems that it was just the tip of the iceberg as Kyle Busch divulged the real particulars.

Kyle Busch spills the beans on what made him find a seat at Richard Childress Racing

As the traditional saying goes, “It’s not over, till it’s over,” and Kyle Busch seemed to reinforce this fact, as he shifted his allegiance from Joe Gibbs Racing to Richard Childress Racing at the beginning of the ongoing season.  The decision was out of the blue and the most surprising move that one could have expected.

While the team boss Richard Childress was faced with a dilemma, his grandson Austin Dillon, on the contrary, was the one who convinced Childress to sign the 2x Cup Series champion. One can surely thank Dillon for his gamble and for signing Busch as his teammate, otherwise the driver would have surely bid his farewell last year.

However, is it just Austin Dillon who deserves complete credit for providing a seat to Busch, as it seems there might have been another personality who had played a pivotal role in this gamble. In a conversation with Bob Pockrass from FOX, Busch seemed to reveal the person that put an end to the uncertainty about his future. When asked by Pockrass, “Last year you were saying I don’t know if I’m going to race next year?”

To this Busch retorted, “I didn’t. It was [Loudon] weekend last year. I told Jim France, I said, ‘Nice knowing you. I’m not going to be here next year.’ And so he was like, ‘Wait, what? What does that mean?’ He then found out. Maybe he had something to do with it [here at RCR], I don’t know.”

There is no arguing that the gamble surely paid off its dividends. What seemed the most unlikely pair, however, is delivering one of the most impressive results in the ongoing season. When compared with the results from the past season, where he was struggling to get his foothold on the track and with his tragic finishes, Busch has surely risen up like a phoenix and found his past momentum back.

But it seems that the trauma of failed sponsorship talks still continues to haunt the driver, even after securing a ride with Richard Childress Racing. This was evident when Pockrass asked the No.8 Chevrolet driver, “So how many years do you have left?”

Replying to the question, Busch expressed, “I don’t know. I would really like to run a year of trucks before Brexton is old enough and then turn the truck over to him when he’s old enough. But we’ll see how all that plays out. Got to have sponsors first.”

While NASCAR enthusiasts had questioned the decision and considered it a folly, it was not long before Busch had simply shut all the doubts with his spectacular victory at the Auto Club Speedway. With his newfound momentum, the No.8 Chevrolet is assuredly a strong contender for the regular season championship, and if his stars are beside him, perhaps the driver will earn his third championship title.
