“I’m Not a Sports Gambler” – Brad Keselowski Dismisses Talk of ‘Favorites’ in the NASCAR Championship Race

Brad Keselowski is one of only two drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series 2020 ‘championship four’ to have won the title before. The talk leading up to the season finale has been about who the favorite is heading into the race. Keselowski’s teammate, Joey Logano, went on to call himself the ‘favorite’ to win the title.

However, Keselowski had some strong views on using the term ‘favorite’ and completely dismissed its relevance for him. Keselowski feels ‘favorite’ is fit for gambling references and he thus believes there are no favorites heading into the race. At the same time, he respects the opinions of others on the same.

“Yeah, I don’t know about the word favorite,” Keselowski said during a media interaction. “You know, I always think of it more from a sense of a gambling connotation. But maybe other people think of it differently.”

“So I really hesitate to use that word because I’m not a sports gambler, and that’s what I hear when people say that,” Keselowski added.

Brad Keselowski feels confident of his chances

While he dismissed the talk of a favorite, Keselowski did highlight the factors that give him confidence before the biggest race of the year. Keselowski is set to bring back the car that won him two races this year, at Loudon and Richmond (playoffs).

“I feel great about the tire. I feel great about the car we’re bringing. This car and this tire combination we’ve won the last two races,” Keselowski continued.

The No. 2 car Team Penske driver admitted that success in the earlier races does not spell success on Sunday at Phoenix as well. However, he trusts the hard work put in by him and his team.

“There’s some differences between Richmond, Loudon, and Phoenix that maybe negate some of those advantages, but that’s okay. My team has worked really hard, and I’ve prepared extra hard to be ready for the moment. Time will tell,” Keselowski expressed.

Evenly-matched contest on offer

Earlier this week, Keselowski said that there is not much to separate himself from his three title competitors. He called the contest “as evenly matched as it’s going to get”. Keselowski knows what it takes to win a title, but his 2012 win came when the playoff system was not in place.

As Keselowski expressed, time will tell what happens on Sunday.
