As Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. got his first-ever win at the New Hampshire track, his teammate, Denny Hamlin, also finished a decent 7th. However, NASCAR’s golden boy and HMS ace, Chase Elliott wasn’t as much endowed yesterday. An agonizing winless drought continues to haunt the 27-year-old, who is missing out on the top 10, finishing 12th and putting himself in the line of fire.
While Chase Elliott looks like he is in dire straits, struggling to find the right footing this season, his former rival and veteran, Denny Hamlin, made some fascinating remarks about Elliott even after the #9 driver proved him wrong.
Still siding with the 2020 Cup Series champion, Hamlin believes Elliott’s best is yet to come, citing some significant aspects despite his bleak NHMS outing. Surprisingly, weeks after making his predictions about the HMS driver, the veteran corrects himself, diving into more speculation and sarcastic jabs.

“Chase Elliott is still gonna make it” Denny Hamlin comes back with more predictions
Well, one thing is certain: 2023 certainly isn’t what the 27-year-old HMS driver thought it would be. After missing seven races, the 2020 champ is in a shaky position, to say the least, and following the Crayon 301, the gap has even widened. Elliott is now -60, still needing 60 to make it into the playoffs. However, with more races coming up, veteran JGR driver Hamlin believes the best is yet to come from Elliott.
With 2 road courses on the schedule, Hamlin explained why he was so bold about his verdict: “The reason I was so adamant about Chase Elliott being able to make it on point is because he is a guy who can get 50 in a race and we have 2 road courses coming up, he has won there, Watkins Glen many times he could put a 50 spot up easily so he can in races do what the 16the place guy does in 4 races.” Though Elliott hasn’t done his former rival any favor other than wreck him at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Hamlin still thinks he will make it to the playoffs.
“He didn’t do me any favor, that’s for sure, he still makes it, I’m gonna die on this hill, Chase Elliott is still gonna make it but I think it’s gonna be because he wins,” said the 42-year-old speaking on his latest Action Detrimental podcast, “Chase Elliott fans, let’s hold hands.” While he is confident about Elliott making it, Hamlin being Hamlin also jabbed in some sarcasm, giving his analysis and at the same time mocking Elliott fans.
However, Hamlin cleaned up his earlier statement of Elliott making it by points to him making it by winning. The veteran carefully adds more factors going in with 6 more races into the playoffs.

Ever since his return, a win has eluded Elliott despite making it into the top 5. And that’s exactly what’s missing from his season. Going into the playoffs with six more races to go, Elliott is still chasing his first win. But that being said, a close analysis will change your mind. Though he hasn’t won this season, Elliott has had decent top-10 finishes, including Martinsville, where he returned after his injury.

Reflecting on this aspect Elliott, Hamlin threw some drivers under the bus when he said, “I still think Chase makes it but I think he makes it cos he wins the race but I mean looking at the guys that he has got to run down, I, they are not just getting 25 points every week either they just, they are gonna have a bad race and leave the race track with 3 points. He puts up 50, boom! He’s down 20 something in 1 week like it can happen that fast, trust me, it can happen that fast, I know, I’m not gonna give up too after this weekend.”
While is almost certain of the Hendrick Motorsports driver’s chances, he did not shy away from firing away some sarcastic blows at Elliott fans. “Chase Elliott fans let’s hold hands, we’re going, we’re gonna unite and we’re gonna will this thing to happen for you guys. Let’s just, trust me, they are saying prayers for him, they’ve got the battery cables hooked up to the 69 Ford pickup trucks just ready to ring that siren.”
With another race week in the rearview mirror and 6 more to go, will Elliott make up the 60-point deficit and secure a playoff berth? What do you think, let us know in the comment section below.
