At the YellaWood 500, one of the biggest contentious points of the race was the yellow track limits line on the inside. Quite a few drivers fell afoul of the track limits and paid for it dearly, like Matt DiBenedetto. However, the likes of Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin managed to escape sanctions.

In Elliott’s case, he got slapped with the penalty, before the stewards investigated further and rescinded it. Speaking about the penalty and sudden reversal, Elliott was thankful for everyone reviewing the incident. From his perspective, he was caught between having to cause a wreck or avoid one.

He said, “I do feel like they got it right. I’m biased, but I do think that when you are put in a position where you have to decide whether or not to cause a wreck, that’s a tough one to be in.”

What else did Chase Elliott say?

He confessed that he did not feel like he needed to wreck anybody. This is because had he maintained his line, a crash would have been inevitable. Owing to this, he was glad that the officials considered that train of thought.

Chase Elliott acknowledged that the situation is tough because the drivers have to stick to the guidelines. However, he insisted that the call itself is tough, but it was a big deal for him in particular.

Meanwhile, Matt DiBenedetto confessed, “I feel like it’s the same story. A lot of times, it’s just heartbreak. But I’m so appreciative of this team, I want this 100th win for Woods so bad.”

The #21 driver got the short end of the stick when he went from 2nd to 21st. Interestingly, the likes of Dale Earnhardt Jr. declared that the yellow line rule should be scrapped altogether.

Earnhardt declared, “How about we just get rid of the yellow line rule? Nobody really wants to see the races come down to these types of decisions. I don’t think it’s going to crash more cars than we crashed today.”
