NASCAR is soon to launch the modified Next Gen cars with new upgrades to its safety features. But the update could have come sooner as Ryan Blaney’s crash at the Nashville Superspeedway seems to attest to that fact.

Next-Gen cars have always been a cause of headaches for drivers since their rollout last year. After a hard-earned victory at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney finally had seen the light at the end of the tunnel. Although the driver expected to extend his winning streak in the remaining few races, however, he faltered in the Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway. The driver prematurely ended his stint on the racetrack, after hitting the inside wall.

The incident occurred at Lap 147 after a restart. The #12 Ford driver was sent reeling on the track after Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch made contact with Ryan Blaney, owing to the late restart by Brad Keselowski which jerked up the inside lane of the grid.

After the contact both Busch and Blaney were sent spinning on the infield grass at Turn 1. And in the process, they also collected Hendrick Motorsports’s Alex Bowman, whose right front bumper charged into Busch’s door. Nonetheless, both drivers were able to climb back to the race.

However, it was Blaney who faced the brunt of the incident as he dived right into the barriers at a right angle. The incident could have turned harrowing in nature. Nevertheless, the car sustained heavy front-end damage and put an end to his race at Nashville Superspeedway. The driver was able to limp back to the pits on his own accord.

After his exiting the race prematurely, the Team Penske driver in an interview with NBC’s Dustin Long vented his frustration. Blaney exclaimed, “I am absolutely on it after this. It s*cks that things like this have to happen, someone to hit the wall like that. Oh, we will put a safe barrier now, then why are not doing it the whole time? I will pay for the fu*king thing.” He had also exclaimed that it was ‘pretty ridiculous’ as there were no safer barriers on the infield wall.
