Despite not winning a Cup Series championship in his life, Dale Earnhardt Jr has had quite a successful career in NASCAR. He was voted the most popular driver on the grid for a record 15 straight time and he has won some of the most iconic races on the calendar. His stats speak for themselves and, as it turns out, he is quite sensitive about the same. Recently, one of the stats that involved him portrayed him in a way not to his liking and he was not in a mood to take that.

On a recent episode of the Dale Jr Download podcast, the former Cup Series driver spoke about a statistic, presented by NASCAR, that was broadcast during last weekend’s Xfinity race on Friday. The statistics showed the drivers who had led the most laps at drafting tracks, Talladega, Daytona, and Atlanta. The first name on that list was Dale Earnhardt Sr, followed by Tony Stewart. Austin Hill occupied third place ahead of Dale Earnhardt Jr. But that is not what Junior had a problem with.

The main point of discussion was that Atlanta should not have been counted. The history of the Atlanta track is quite unique. It used to be a regular speedway until 2022. That year, the track was renovated to increase the banking from 24 degrees to 28 degrees and the width was reduced from 17 meters to 12 meters. This allowed drafting to be possible, making it a drafting track like Talladega and Daytona.

Junior, however, does not believe in something called a ‘drafting track.’ According to him, it was possible to draft at other tracks as well, Michigan, for example. So the trio of Daytona, Talladega, and Atlanta should be under the umbrella of superspeedways. But as per the 48-year-old, Atlanta was not long enough to be a superspeedway (a track that’s 2 miles).

Another point of contention was the fact that Atlanta became a drafting track long after Junior had retired from the Cup Series. So his argument was that if the stats at Atlanta were being taken into consideration, his numbers from when the track was not a drafting one should also be incorporated. And the man who Junior directed his dissatisfaction at, the man who presented these stats in the first place was none other than one of the co-hosts of Dirty Mo Dough, The Professor.

“Most laps led at a superspeedway, I don’t think you can throw Atlanta stuff in there unless you’re throwing all of Atlanta’s history in there,” an unhappy Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.

He also added that Atlanta was a hybrid track, one of a kind. Even while picking drivers who could perform well at the track (which is what The Professor essentially does on the Dirty Mo Dough podcast), the only historical references that can be used are a driver’s performance specifically at Atlanta.

“When I go to Atlanta I only look at Atlanta performance. I don’t look at Daytona and Talladega and go, “Yep! He kicked their b*tt last time at Talladega, this is going to be a great race for him.” Atlanta is its own thing. I agree. Yeah, that burned me a little bit Friday night when I saw that. I was like, damn they better not put that stat on television. I’ll be p*ssed,” he added.

Remember when Junior went on a whole tirade about how the concept of a medium plus steak didn’t make any sense earlier this month? Well, one of the people who gave the former Cup Series driver a hard time over that was none other than The Professor himself.

Much like this time, Junior hadn’t taken his friend’s viewpoint too kindly back then either. In fact, he was quite annoyed, stating that he “could give a cr*p less who takes a hard stance” on him.

Junior’s close friend and co-host Mike Davis quickly noticed this and stated that The Professor had been giving him a hard time of late.

“Well you know the Professor’s been, he’s been triggering you lately. First, it was the medium plus and now it’s this,” Davis quipped in the recent episode of Dale Jr. Download.

“I give him a hard time,” Junior responded.
