Kyle Petty had a surprising experience in 1984 when he ended up driving his race team’s transporter. This was because his grandfather had fired several crew members and they were short-staffed. Fast-forward to the present, Joey Logano is prepared to take on a similar role if required at Team Penske.

Logano shared that he got his commercial driver’s license on Friday morning before he headed to the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The driver who achieved 277 top finishes admitted that it was a tough task. Moreover, he mentioned that he is glad that now he has a backup plan too!

Joey Logano was driving trucks illegally all this while!

Logano has been doing something illegal–driving trucks without a license! His dad had a trucking business, so he rode trucks but admitted that he was told he would get in big trouble without the license. He said, “My old man still has a few old trucks, and I liked driving them. And it was brought to my attention that if something was to happen, I would be in really big trouble.” Hence, he had to go to school. Logano wanted the old-school way of getting the license through shortcuts, but that’s not the world we live in!

So off he was at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Statesville, N.C., about 40 miles from the 1.5-mile speedway. And just like everyone else, driving school unnerved him, too. He said on SiriusXM Radio, “But he [the instructor] sat there and every time I made a turn, he is writing something down. And I said sir, no disrespect but I drive high-pressure situations every single weekend and you are making me really nervous. It’s like I don’t know what you are doing there.”

Finally, Logano managed to pass the test and get the license. Not that a driver with 32 cup wins, 277 top finishes, and two championships to his name would have had difficulty in getting a license! Furthermore, he said that he never had a backup plan before, but now he does. His CDL license can come in handy someday if need be. “If worse, comes to worse, I can still be a professional driver, just be it with trucks instead of a race car,” he said. While fans hope he never has to quit racing, it’s reassuring to know he has a solid backup plan in place.

Joey Logano has always had a passion for automobiles, boasting a stellar collection that he occasionally shares on his Instagram.

Joey Logano’s impressive collection of vehicles

Logano has over 15 years of racing experience in the cup series. Most fans would have seen him drive the #22 Ford on the field. But that’s not the only ride he has! Outside the sport, he has built quite a collection of cars, from classic ones to trucks and more. From his social media posts, seems like the Ford F-150 Raptor R is his favorite. It has a horsepower of 720 and the 37-inch tires make it perfect for any terrain. It sits almost six people and looks like a beast on the road. But this isn’t the only Ford he can afford!

He also has a Ford F-150 Lightning. It’s an electric version of the Raptor R. But don’t take it lightly, because this beast can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds and is one of the most powerful trucks in the segment!

Logano also owns a 1993 Ford Mustang GT, a classic car that never fails to turn heads. This stellar vehicle is powered by a 5.0L V8 engine, delivering 205 horsepower at 4200 RPM and 275 lb-ft of torque at 3000 RPM.

Another stellar vehicle in his collection is the 2021 Ford Bronco, which features a 7-speed manual transmission and four-wheel drive. It is capable of producing 300 horsepower at 5700 RPM. The Ford Econoline pickup truck is another noteworthy vehicle in Logano’s collection. The inline-six engine in this classic truck provides 85 horsepower.

Furthermore, Logano has made modifications to a 1950s pickup truck to make it look like it came straight out of the Mad Max movies. On his YouTube channel, he shared that his father was the original buyer of this truck, and it has been in the family ever since. The racecar driver has several other vehicles like the 1938 DMC Delorean and now that he has a license, we are sure we will see many more additions to his collection, soon.
