Ben Rhodes made a name for himself last season when he won the NASCAR Truck Series out of the blue in the championship race at Phoenix. After such an impressive feat, one would consider themselves one of the drivers to look out for ahead of the new season. So when eminent NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass snubbed him in his pre-season prospect rankings, the 26-year-old was not. However, in return, Rhodes voiced his opinions about that quite clearly on his official X account as well.

At one point, it seemed like the fight was among Grant Enfinger, Corey Heim, and Carson Hocevar, while Ben Rhodes was back in the distance. However, after that whole fiasco with Heim and Hocevar played out, the ThorSport Racing driver swooped in and won his second Truck Series championship in three years. The finale may have received a lot of flak, but no one can take away the championship title from Rhodes.

Did Ben Rhodes just lose hope in the Truck Series?

In his pre-season prospect rankings, Bob Pockrass did not even include him in the top 20. The reigning NASCAR Truck Series champion felt like an afterthought as he was put in the ‘others to watch’ category as his title rival Corey Heim was given the top spot. A reason for this could be age since the top 5 drivers on that list were all under the age of 22.

But to not include the reigning champion in the top 20 was indeed a surprise. Ben Rhodes did not take too kindly to Pockrass’ list, as he cast doubt over the point of winning the Truck Series championship, which is supposed to be one of NASCAR’s biggest prizes. He even implied, probably sarcastically, that he would not try to achieve the same in the future.

“Darn, I guess truck championships don’t mean anything. Guess I won’t try anymore,” the 26-year-old wrote on X as he shared Bob Pockrass’ tweet. The 2-time Truck Series champion is an expressive man, and he made that pretty clear with his incredible post-championship interview last year.

But what does the future hold for the ThorSport Racing star? Well, for now, the 26-year-old said that he was going to stay put in the NASCAR Truck Series and go for a third championship win. That is in contradiction to what he tweeted out a few hours ago.

The Kentucky native said that he has a lot of love for the NASCAR Truck Series but questions about his future have been raised by several people. Every driver wants to race full-time in the Cup Series someday, but until that opportunity shows itself, Ben Rhodes is going to do the best he can in the series in which he is competing. And after 2 championship wins, anything less will feel like a failure.

“I love the Truck Series. I am having a lot of fun. Everybody asks me. What’s next? What’s next? What’s next? And this is a tough sport, right? Nobody knows what the future holds for them. But as long as I am right here at ThorSport Racing and racing in the Truck Series, I am going for the championships,” Ben Rhodes said. “I can firmly say now that after the first championship, after the second championship, anything less than that feels like a failure for a season.”

It will be interesting to see where Ben Rhodes ends up when his call to the Cup or the Xfinity Series comes. Being a 2-time Trucks champion, his stock is already quite high, and it wouldn’t be surprising if bigger teams eyed up the 26-year-old Ford driver after the 2024 season.
