Kevin Harvick’s illustrious career in NASCAR will come to an end at the end of the 2023 season. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver might be hoping to go out with a bang, but unfortunately, there have not been many memorable moments this season so far.

Harvick clinched 10th place in the standings on Sunday with a 21st-place finish at Watkins Glen. Despite making it through to the last 16, the 47-year-old was evidently unhappy after the race with how his car performed over the weekend and it did not seem like he had much hope of making an impact in the remaining races this season.

Harvick said that he had wished for a race win by now this season and that his team had had the opportunities to do so, but it was just not meant to be for the SHR man. When asked about these chances in the playoffs, a disappointed Harvick said that unless his team could get the car running better than it had on the Glen, there was little chance he could have done anything.

The #4 team will only have one race before the start of the playoffs where they will be hoping to give Harvick a fitting send-off.

After the Cup Series race at Watkins Glen, Harvick looked dejected in one of the post-race interviews and he expressed his unhappiness with how his final season in NASCAR has panned out so far.

“I wish we could’ve won a race before now but we got our opportunities to win a few. You know, we’ve struggled on road courses but, other than that, it’s been okay,” the veteran NASCAR racer said.

Speaking about how he can do in the playoffs, the 47-year-old iterated that the car had to run better than it had at the Glen if they really were to have any chance of making an impact.

“I don’t know. We just gotta get our cars running better to really do anything,” he added.

Kevin Harvick might not be having a season that he would like to remember, but one man who is having an even harder time is former Cup Series champion and Hendrick Motorsports star Chase Elliott.

Ahead of Watkins Glen, Elliott had to win one out of the remaining two regular-season races to make it into the playoffs this year. Not only did the #9 not win, he didn’t even finish in the top 30 as his car ran out of fuel in the middle of the race.

Elliott’s crew chief Alan Gustafson was asked about the team’s strategy and what the problem was with the #9’s fuel situation. The HMS man was not eager to answer the media’s questions about the internal matters of the team.

“I’m not going to go over our internal struggles in the media, and I’m certainly not going to educate everybody else on the problem,” he said.

“That’s what winning is. You’re going to make sure you exploit everything to the highest percentile possible….So the time you’re trying to push, you’re cutting margins. That gets riskier and riskier,” Gustafson added afterward.

It is not wise to give up on a driver like Chase Elliott, but all hopes of him making the playoffs this season seem lost. The final race of the regular season is at Daytona and it is a track on which Elliott has not excelled. There might be a miracle waiting in the wings, but as things stand, the #9’s Cup Series season seems to be over.
