Driving at the Indy 500 is the dream of almost every single motorsport athlete in the world. Former NASCAR champion Kyle Larson will see that dream turned into reality in 2024. Earlier this year, Arrows McLaren announced that Larson would be driving for their team in the 2024 Indy 500. The #17 car, which will be Larson’s for the race, will be unveiled on August 13. While most motorsport fans would be excited about such an announcement, this time was a bit different.

A lot of the fan reaction on social media was directed toward how the Arrow McLaren scheme would just be another version of the Hendrick Motorsports car scheme Larson drives in NASCAR.

It was as if only a few people cared about the excitement that comes with the announcement of an Indy 500 car. That too for a driver who was participating for the first time. The arguments in the social media comments centered around how Hendrick Motorsports would have the same scheme for the iconic race, only with McLaren’s famed papaya color.

“I will be shocked if it’s not a version of his current scheme/Ricky Hendrick scheme,” one fan commented on Reddit. Another fan replied, “With McLaren’s papaya orange mixed in.”

“The regular scheme but with orange instead of red,” said another user.

Fans on Twitter were also of the same opinion. “Of course the hendrickcars scheme is coming to indycar,” tweeted one fan. “It’s gonna be the Ricky scheme it always is,” opined another.

“Literally going to be the same scheme he runs in cup,” came another comment on Arrow McLaren’s tweet.

There were some fans who would have been happier if the car had the Hendrick Motorsports scheme instead of McLaren’s usual papaya. “It’s a shame it’s probably going to have orange mixed with it. I get it’s McLaren and all but god that Hendrick Cars scheme on an open wheeler would look so good,” a Reddit user commented.

Earlier this year, Arrows McLaren announced that Kyle Larson would race for them in the 2024 Indy 500 race. It will be through a partnership between Arrow McLaren and Hendrick Motorsports. After the announcement of the deal, Larson was understandably overjoyed as he quipped about how the Indy 500 was one race he wanted to participate in for a long time.

“I’m super excited,” Larson said, as per indianapolismotorspeedway.com. “Competing at the Indianapolis 500 is a dream of mine and something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time – since I was a child before I ever began competing in sprint cars. To do it with Arrow McLaren, and Mr. Hendrick especially, is a dream come true. I’m grateful for the opportunity and am really looking forward to it even though it’s still about a year-and-a-half away. I’m really looking forward to competing in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 and maybe even get a win or two that day.”
