One reason why NASCAR is loved so much is because of its family legacies. And there is none like the Earnhardt’s. But Dale Earnhardt Jr. only does one-off races now. And for his two daughters Isla Rose (6 years old) and Nicole (4 years old) to become NASCAR legends, there is a long time. Plus, there are a lot of ifs and buts. Would they pick racing after growing up? Would the NASCAR landscape at that time be suitable for women? Come on, we all want the Earnhardt heir in NASCAR!

And the possibility of having a Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr. has crossed everyone’s mind in the NASCAR community. But recently Dale Jr. has revealed his plans for a third child and they are not encouraging! He laments decisions from the past in an honest confession.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is disappointed in his family planning

So, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife Amy Earnhardt tied the knot in 2016. And this came after they dated for about seven years. For folks who don’t know…Amy is an interior designer by profession, and apparently Junior wanted to re-design his Kannapolis residence. That’s how the two met in 2009. And two years after their marriage, they welcomed their first daughter, Isla, and then in 2020, Nicole was born. It’s almost been 5 years and all his fans have been waiting for a third one. But the couple aren’t planning for it.

On the recent episode of Dale Jr Download, Junior was asked by YouTuber Cleetus McFarland, if he wants more kids. To which he replied, “I don’t, now. I mean after two I was kind of like…hey man I’m happy. The other things too I’ll tell you. My age, right?Yup. It’s the age gap for him. He’ll turn 51 this year and that’s more than a 44-year gap between him and his eldest. And Junior is worried that there’s a chance he might not even be around when they graduate.

Also, don’t get him wrong… he’s all for a big family. And he’s got regret for not starting things sooner. “It’s a tough perspective. It’s selfish maybe. But I don’t know. I was stupid for waiting for as long as I did to figure it out and get my life into this position. I should have married Amy way sooner, I should have started our family sooner.”

“I felt like having kids at my age, I know what it’s like to lose your parent when you are young and even in your 20s you are not really prepared. So I felt like shoot man I don’t want to bring a child into this world and then leave them in their early 20s or even earlier. I don’t know what’s guaranteed for me,” he added. And Dale Earnhardt Jr. knows a little too well about losing your father at that tender age. He was 27 when Dale Earnhardt Sr. died in the 2001 Daytona crash. So having a child now doesn’t make sense to him.

What’s your perspective on:

Should Dale Jr. have started his family earlier to ensure an Earnhardt legacy in NASCAR?

Have an interesting take?

Maybe if they had married in 2010, and got the first kid in 2011…Isla would already be in middle school. But that is just life, and no one plans it to the smallest details. It just flows. There’s no doubt that Dale Jr. is incredibly grateful to be a parent and a husband despite putting it off for a large part of his life. At least he was until Amy recently revealed a fun titbit about Dale Junior’s car manners.

Who controls the music in the Earnhardt car?

We all know how important music is while you are cruising in a car. When you are soloing…it’s no problem. But with passengers on board, everyone’s preferences have to be considered. But this is not the case when Dale Jr. and Amy are together in the car. So, the Dale Jr Download podcast sometimes has an ‘Ask Amy’ segment where fans get to ask Amy questions (and who doesn’t want the inside scoop on the Earnhardt house). Anyway, in the recent one, a fan popped the question: ‘Should the person who’s driving get to control the music?’

Amy jumped on this one…she said, “So Dale would agree with that. But Dale controls the music no matter what environment we’re in. So I feel like that’s unfair. Here’s the thing….if you want to control the music, I get to control the temperature in the car. But Dale’s always in control of the music. I don’t know that’s hard…who drives all the time? that’s the thing. If the person in the driver’s seat is always in the driver’s seat that’s not fair you have to take turns.”

This topic struck a nerve. Dale Jr. fired back with a whole different problem (even though it’s related to control).  And he said, “We’re driving. We’re driving down the road..this is one this is something…that I just had to get used to and I still don’t have it mastered. But we’ll be driving down the road and I’ll have the music and I mean it’s just playing a normal volume. There’s you know there’s kids in the back their iPads and all kinds of noise and dog there just things right and traffic might be getting a little annoying whatever. But she’ll just reach over and just turn it down. And I’m like all right I guess that’s what we’re doing. I got three hours to drive and the music’s barely audible.”

Amy argues that to keep herself sane, music has to be turned down. And Junior kind of took this off-topic.. The question was who controls the music (driver or passenger?), not its volume. Amy coming back to it claimed she’s the one always driving, but Junior is still controlling the music!
