The NASCAR Cup Series went to Michigan for its most recent race and it was an event soaked by rain. The track conditions had become so treacherous on Sunday that the race had to be postponed to the next day with more than half the number of laps left. The tricky situations proved to be a challenge for all the drivers and there were some who couldn’t exactly come to terms with it and suffered DNFs.

The list includes some illustrious names like Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott. Conditions were better on Monday, but there were still a few cars that failed to finish the race.

Former NASCAR racer Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mike Davis recently sat down to discuss what happened at Michigan on an episode of the Dale Jr. Download podcast.

It was annoying, says Dale Earnhardt Jr on Michigan experience

At the start of the episode, Junior recalled one time that he had gone to Michigan for a race and faced weather conditions far worse than what happened on Sunday. He would then go off on NASCAR’s poor handling of the situation at the time, which saw them stuck in Michigan with nothing to do for three whole days.

Dale Jr and Mike Davis initially spoke about how Michigan was a good but extended weekend before the former would go on to recall his experience.

“I remember sitting in the bus. One year, it rained all day Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, And I think we raced Wednesday. And man, I was so ticked off because I knew, like everyone else, that it was gonna rain for three days. But NASCAR didn’t send anybody home,” Junior quipped.

He would then go on to acknowledge that the technology back then was not as advanced as it is today and that ultimately helps everyone involved with the sport in case there is an unfortunate situation.

However, Dale Jr. was not happy about what he had to deal with during his days as a full-time NASCAR driver.

“They [NASCAR] were like, ‘Yup, we’re gonna stick around. Could happen tomorrow. Stay tuned!’ It was just annoying as hell,” the former Cup Series driver added.

While the Michigan race was a spectacle in itself, with the rain making it last two days and a slew of DNFs, Dale Earnhardt Jr is looking forward to Indianapolis. One man he has been highly impressed with is former Formula One driver, Kamui Kobayashi.

Kobayashi is set to become the first Japanese driver to start a Cup Series race in two decades. He will have two other international racers with him, Supercars champion Shane Van Gisbergen and former Formula One world champion Jenson Button.

While the two might have arguably earned more prestigious accolades than Kobayashi, Earnhardt Jr is a huge fan of the Japanese driver.

On an episode of the Dale Jr Download podcast, he said, “Kobayashi, we’ve seen him just be ridiculous at the 24 hours of Daytona and every car that he drives in is like, he’s lights out faster than everybody else.”

Junior also revealed that he had heard rumors from the 23XI Racing team, who have employed Kobayashi as a part-timer, that the Japanese athlete was ‘insane’ during testing.

“And so, I’m hearing rumors that the testing that they did with him, he was insane. Insane!”

There are going to be a lot of big names stepping up to the task at hand at Indianapolis alongside the Japanese driver. Button and more importantly, SVG will be the ones to look out for. However, if Kobayashi stands up to Junior’s expectations, then fans will certainly have a fine show on their hands come Sunday.
