Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Amy Earnhardt have been together since around 2010/2011. They made their relationship official in 2011, and Dale Jr. was delivering week in and week out. Fans were desperate to get a glimpse of the legendary Dale Jr. While Dale Jr. had figured out a way to handle it, Amy confessed to being out of her zone.
Remembering it, she said on the Kenny Conversation, “Honestly when we first went to the racetrack and were in the environment around race fans I didn’t really know what to expect but I was blown away and I was scared at the same time. Scared of like misstepping scared of getting lost, scared being in the wrong place the wrong time and getting stepped on or pushed out of the way I don’t know.” Being at a race for the first time with the series’ most popular driver can be a daunting experience and Amy revealed that even Dale Jr. would try to rush away from it at times.
Amy prefers getting far away from the place whenever she comes across a fandom situation with Dale Jr. As she doesn’t like to be part of that extra attention. She added, “He was always like head down ran through the garage ran through people. Unless he was planning on signing autographs and he would stop and do the whole thing… and I still do this just kind of get as far as away from that as I can because it’s nothing to do with me and I don’t want any extra attention.”
After getting acquainted with everything, Amy further said, “When I saw all of that I thought holy sh-t what have I gotten myself into and this is going to be quite the ride no matter how short or long it is, this is going to be quite an amazing person to be around.”
To no surprise, Dale Earnhardt Jr. admires and respects his fans’ passion for him and adores the love he gets from them. In one of the posts on June 28th, 2017 by NASCAR on Facebook. Dale Jr. personally thanked his fans in a video.
“Hey Everybody just wanted to tell you guys about the Appreciation tour. Junior Nation Appreciation tour. It’s our way of showing the fans how much you all mean to us. You guys been thanking us for what we’ve done over the last several years and we wanna thank y’all we want you all to know how important you are to us. If you don’t mind, if you got little time I would like to do that individually.” This was the year Dale Jr. retired from full-time racing, therefore he paid tribute to his loyal supporters who have been there through thick and thin. In 2024 he revived an iconic paint scheme for a one-ff race but it did not go to plan
Dale Jr. is a real challenger. When he was deeply affected by retiring from the race at Florence Motor Speedway, he expected his wife to be equally distraught as this was his first race back in the Budweiser #8 after 17 years. Amy’s response was hilariously shocking.

After qualifying in the top 25, driving his Budweiser No. 8 machine. Approaching near, lap 40 marks of the race. He tried to maintain the second position behind the lead racer. It was all till it was 219 lap when he reached his pit halt, pointing out something was wrong with his car. And that was the very point when he was made aware that the fuel pump was broken. Which led him to mark his exit from the race.
Speaking on Dale Jr.’s career, Kenny Wallace asked Amy,” I’m getting goosebumps right now talking about it comes through the field patiently get ready to challenge for the win of course you know the motor broke but what was the girls, well Isla and Nicole, you, the whole deal did they get a chance to see just their dad is somebody?” Dale Jr. raced with his dad Dale Earnhardt Sr. before his tragic passing at the Daytona 500 in 2001. However, Dale Jr.’s kids were born in 2018 (Isla Rose) and 2020 (Nicole Lorraine), while Dale Jr. retired full-time in 2017. So getting to watch him at his peak was not what they could experience. However, getting a chance to witness the revival of the Budweiser #8 at the Florence Motor Speedway was set to be a historic occasion, until his family missed the race while being at the track!
While that may sound confusing, Amy Earnhardt detailed the events that occurred that night. She said, “We went to the garage we still on top of the hauler and they got to watch that whole thing. They’re in literally vintage Bud 8 gear that Kelley had saved… Race time was kind of late we started watching the race in the suite, we got two laps in and the wheels were falling off the kids. I mean melting down so I take them back to the motor coach to put em’ to sleep and I fell asleep too and I missed the whole thing”

Amy was busy parenting her kids, while Dale Jr. was struggling from his bad day at Florence. While they might have missed his most recent race, Isla Rose in particular has seen Dale Jr. race part-time in the Xfinity Series and she used to cry whenever her dad didn’t win. Well, Dale Jr. was the same way when his old man lost a race so it definitely runs in the family.
