NASCAR world’s pride, Denny Hamlin will always be remembered as one of its best. From setting new benchmarks to winning consecutive races, the man has done it all. The Daytona 500 winner has always raised the temperature, especially with his fans.
Back in 2020, in a podcast with Steve Letarte, despite a lot of achievements, he opened up about all that more he wanted to achieve. Steve, himself a NASCAR crew chief for Hendrick Motorsports in the past, understands what goes on in the mind of a racer. In his podcast Letarte on Location, he dived deeper into Hamlin’s desires as a NASCAR star who has achieved a lot.

With 531 races noted then, he asked Denny about his consistencies and wins. Letarte began by asking him about his 43 wins that put him in the top 20 of all time. Which makes him only 13 away from the top 10. He even mentioned that not a lot of people enter with such astronomical goals and that he got success pretty early.
Letarte went deeper, asking Hamlin if he believed or had the confidence even before he started achieving such massive goals. To which Hamlin humbly replied, “My goals change year to year. If you would have asked me probably in 2012 or 13, I would say, man, if I could ever get to 40. That was a great career goal, that goal has been switched now to like sixty you know! And I think I can get there, certainly before my career is over.” It is interesting to see how Hamlin aspires to be in the leagues of Kyle Busch & Kevin Harvick, who have 60 wins to their names.

There is a lot of uncertainty going on with Denny’s contract. The contract with FedEx at Joe Gibbs Racing is coming to an end in 2023. Fans are speculating that it might be the same case for him that was with Kyle Busch. Hamlin spent his entire career with Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. In the past, Hamlin had shown his desire to complete his career with FedEx and JGR. But if the sponsors decide otherwise, things would end differently. In December 2022, at NASCAR Sport’s Champion’s week, Denny mentioned his thoughts on his future. The #11 for JGR will be seen at the 2023 Cup Series and if he wins the Cup, it will be massive.
