Herbie Hancock might be the creator of the most popular “Watermelon Man”, but NASCAR has its own version. No, it’s not a song, but it is a driver, and that is none other than Ross Chastain. The Trackhouse Racing driver who took his car to the playoff in his team’s first season in the Cup Series. Although he has developed a reputation for creating havoc, Denny Hamlin and Danica Patrick appreciated that quality.
In fact, they even admitted they aren’t as good as Chastain.

It’s quite interesting coming from Denny, who has been a victim of Chastain’s antics along with Chase Elliott. But this was part of a conversation in Patrick’s podcast, Pretty Intense, when she confessed, “Crashing someone like having to sort of like ‘send a message to the field that you can’t be messed with’. I just. I sucked at it and I didn’t love doing it.”
Hamlin admitted that he wasn’t as good. “Well, even I did a terrible job the first few times.” But he appreciated Chastain, who has significantly less experience than Denny, and yet, “I always said Ross is one of the toughest people ever crashed like when he knows it’s coming, he’s really tough I mean. He knows how to slow down the right areas.”
What do you think? Do you also feel it’s a skill the Trackhouse Racing driver has that others might not? Or is it something that should be condemned more than appreciated?

He said in the same interview, “I don’t like that I like to concentrate on you know going out there getting the best finish that I can. And honestly, if I let someone occupy my thoughts in the middle of a race um it’s not going to optimize my day.”
