After NASCAR penalized Denny Hamlin for intentionally wrecking Ross Chastain in Phoenix, and hence ‘manipulating’ the race, he was fined $50,000 and 25 points as a penalty. One other penalty which NASCAR gave recently was to Hendrick Motorsports and Kaulig Racing.

Although, their penalties were pretty huge in both aspects.

But, HMS appealed and had their penalty modified. The same is also expected to happen for Matt Kaulig’s team this week, that they too will emerge, just like Rick Hendrick’s team did, with a bigger fine and their points restored.

Denny Hamlin also appealed by the way. His hearing is a day after Kaulig’s this week, but the difference between the two is the chances of his appeal being entertained are low.

Or at least that’s what Dale Jr. thinks.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. speaks about the appeals of Kaulig and Denny Hamlin

In a recent episode of his podcast show, Dale Jr. Download, Dale Earnhardt Jr. opened up on his thoughts and predictions around Denny Hamlin’s forthcoming penalty appeal.

“Denny’s appeal is about words he mentioned on his podcast, about intentionally wrecking (Ross) Chastain at Phoenix. Denny has went on record on his own podcast saying, ‘I got what I feel like is a very, very good approach’ for this appeal and argument for trying to overturn his own suspension,” Junior said.

“I think that’s going to be more theatre than the Kaulig Racing appeal.”

He claimed that the air around Kaulig’s appeal suggests that they’ll come out in the same scenario as Hendrick. But if they don’t, “everybody’s gonna wonder, ‘Why the hell not?'”

Having said that, Junior turned towards his predictions for Hamlin’s appeal. “I think when they go paying attention to Denny’s appeal on Thursday, I really don’t expect his punishment to change,” Earnhardt Jr. said.

Earnhardt Jr. argued that if the appeal does end up changing, he “can’t wait” to hear how Hamlin describes what happened there. “He’s going to share with us, I’m sure, on his podcast, how the process went for him, win or lose. And that’s going to be great for us to hear,” he described.

“That will shed more light on that appeal’s process for everyone out there that wants to know how this all goes down.”
