Thad Moffitt has been in the limelight recently after signing for the new Truck Series team, Faction46. While it is a new venture for him, the NASCAR community is yet to get to know the young driver fully. Other than being Richard Petty’s grandson, not much is known about Moffitt’s personal life. In an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, the 23-year-old shared more about his off-the-track life. While doing so, he mentioned how he had something in common with Chase Elliott, but it was a risky admission.

While he caries forward the NASCAR legacy of the Petty family, Thad Moffitt does have hobbies and interests of his own. Speaking more about the same, Moffitt opened up in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports. During the candid conversation, the Faction46 driver talked about the adventures he cherishes. He said, “Outside the Petty family and the racing legacy, we do typical adrenaline junkie stuff. I’m a big snowboarder, watersports, snowmobiling.”

Thad Moffitt then pointed out something expected. He said, “I know I probably shouldn’t say snowboarding because of what happened to Chase [Elliott] last year.” This is in context to Chase Elliott missing out on six races, and arguably the playoffs, in the 2023 Cup Series because of a snowboarding injury.

Time and again, Thad Moffitt has specified how the Petty family is a united one. Not only that, the family enjoys time together both on and off the track regularly. In 2020, when Moffitt was asked the location for the family’s next trip, he stated one without any hesitance.

As reported by arcaracing.com, Moffitt said, “We are more like a mountain, rugged people. We usually go to Jackson Hole, but I have been trying to convince everybody to go to Aspen, Colorado, to ski. If I can convince everyone in my family to go to Colorado for a weekend and we take all forty people, I think it would be fun.”

Moffitt also added how Richard Petty has been an influential figure in instilling the fun part within the family. He said, “We can have fun anywhere. We have lots of fun at the racetrack most of the time, but we have just as much fun away from it. That’s the way Grandpa has groomed the family; it’s fun to get together and tell stories.”
