As Jimmie Johnson bid adieu to the sport, tributes poured in for him from all his fellow drivers. One of them was Clint Bowyer, who also called it quits, looking to start a new phase of his life.
In light of Johnson’s retirement, Bowyer shared a hilarious but interesting story involving himself and the 7-time champion.
Bowyer looked back at an incident involving the two of them. It was after one of Johnson’s 7 championship victories and Bowyer was present at a celebration party for Johnson’s title win.

However, what made that night memorable for Bowyer was that it led to Bowyer being part of the Johnsons’ Christmas card picture.
“I made the family Christmas card because I stayed after one of his championship parties one time. And we had a hell of a good time,” Bowyer reminisced. Bowyer said he was not sure if invited or uninvited, but he did make the Christmas card.

Bowyer has no recollection of which year it was, or even being in the photo, for that matter. However, Jimmie’s father Gary Johnson sent the picture including Bowyer as a Christmas card from the Johnsons. He does remember having a huge celebration that night.
“I don’t remember even being in the Christmas card picture. But that’s what made that’s why Gary thought it was so funny. Because we were definitely, definitely celebrating in a large way. Just kind of all fell together, literally,” Bowyer expressed.
Emotional NASCAR farewell for Johnson and Bowyer
Johnson and Bowyer had an emotional evening at the Phoenix Raceway. Before their final race as full-time NASCAR drivers began, they received a huge round of applause during the pre-race introductions.
Their respective families even posed for a picture together before the race in an emotional moment for the two NASCAR greats.
Following their farewell, Bowyer posted a nice message for Johnson. It was an accurate take on Johnson’s legacy as a champion. He said while Johnson consistently dominated the field, he did it with grace and respect.
“
Just like all my other peers, I am both fortunate and unfortunate that my career was during the same time Jimmie Johnson was,” Bowyer said.His Christmas card story and his post-retirement words for Johnson show the level of respect that the two drivers share for each other and their level of camaraderie.
