It was just days back that Hendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman announced stepping down from dirt racing if not quitting altogether. The decision came months after suffering from a broken vertebra after his sprint car flipped during an event of the High Limit Racing. However, to suppress the urge to stay away from the dirt tracks of Tulsa is nothing less than a mammoth task for the Chevrolet driver.

As a result, it seems that the driver is already engaged in the preparations of the upcoming Chili Bowl, along with his own eponymous dirt and midget racing team Alex Bowman. With preparations underway, for the 38th edition of the dirt race, the driver of the #48 Chevrolet, spilled the beans on his hectic schedule during the off-season, in his latest interview.

The 2023 Cup Series season has been utterly dismal for Alex Bowman. From leading the scoreboard, early in the season, to suffering a back injury, to finally being eliminated before the playoffs for the first time, it has been a whirlwind for the driver. Owing to this, the driver resolved to put his dirt racing outing to a halt and dedicate his attention to the quest for his first Cup Series championship.

However, it is easier said than done as Bowman also owns his midget racing team. In an interview with the host of Dirtrackr, he revealed his preparations for the upcoming Chili Bowl Series from the 7th of January. When asked about his whereabouts in the off-season and the upcoming dirt series, Bowman retorted, “Yeah, definitely. My girlfriend said, last week she said, I don’t care what you do until the 24th but you have been in your shop, every single day since Phoenix, so on the 24th and the 25th you are not going to the shop, and on the 26th I go to Colorado.”

“The Chili Bowls have to be done loaded and ready to go, by 2-3 am on the 24th, I can probably get away with. Just kinda a full-bore on that, we bent all three cars, drastically last year, so it was build new cars. I ended up building four. Tried to find the right situation to run and it just didn’t work out. So built four cars, and we really didn’t start until really after Phoenix.”

The upcoming series is ready to boast the highest number of entries, which has surpassed the 300 mark. Moreover, Alex Bowman is assuredly not a new entrant in the world of dirt racing. Having dabbled in the world of dirt and focus midgets, during his early career days, the driver eventually shifted his focus to pavement racing. However, the bug of midget racing is yet to simmer down.

Continuing on his love for Chili Bowl racing and the addition of stringent rules in the series, the HMS driver stated, “Just a couple of little things were holdups. I attempted polishing frames which is the most work that I have ever attempted at anything and it wasn’t going to come out how I wanted it, so we had to kind of back up and powder coat. Just been in the shop tinkering and I love Chili Bowl and kind of the ingenuity, the lack of weight rules and it was lack of any rules for a long time.

“Now they have started creeping in, but it’s a lot of fun. I don’t know what else I’d really be doing with myself. I mean I was here at 7:15, this morning cleaning off shelves and benches and trying to get as ready as we can to go to Tulsa.”
