Kevin Harvick’s retirement from racing is perhaps one of the biggest losses NASCAR has had in a long time. But thankfully, we will still be seeing a lot of him as he heads to the offices of Fox Sports. The driver will serve the broadcast house as an analyst in 2024. Nevertheless, this is still a huge transition for him, stepping down from a race car after 23 long years. And, he is already at work to avoid a harsh transition into the future.
Talking on Dale Earnhardt Jr’s podcast, whom he once shared the racing grid with, Harvick detailed how he was planning to adjust to the change in lifestyle. Displaying his traits as a racer he appeared to be well in the know of what it is that he exactly wanted.

Tectonic transitions aren’t nothing new for the 47-year-old Kevin Harvick. He had spent 13 long years in the garages of Richard Childress Racing before he moved to join Tony Stewart’s outfit in 2013. 10 years later he finds himself at the same crossroads again. He now takes a few pages of the book that he wrote then.
Joining Dale Earnhardt Jr and his co-host Mike Davis for an episode of ‘Dale Jr Download’, he discussed how he was preparing for the transition. He said, “We’re gonna treat it exactly like I did when I went from RCR to SHR. So we’re gonna change houses and then we’ll purge everything. And then you’ll just start over and that’s just the way that we did it. Because it was so refreshing to have all those changes.” Explaining the idea, he reasoned that he wanted to move everything so that he got a complete picture of what he had and did not have.
He said, “I want to know what my memorabilia collection is. I want to know where all those things are and I want to know exactly what it is worth. I want to know exactly what I spend and I want to know exactly where everything is and what am I working towards. I just need a goal. Tell me what I am working towards.”
Having raced towards a finish line all his adult life, it is no surprise that Kevin Harvick is still on the lookout for one. Thankfully, he has a harsh takeaway from the last couple of years that will serve as a lesson for him now.

The ex-Stewart-Haas Racing driver’s retirement plan had been in motion for some time. Though he made the official announcement only earlier this year, the thought appears to have been strong in the Harvick household for the last few years. The revelations surfaced after Davis asked the 2014 champion about the “change in lifestyle” that would be required now that he has quit racing.
Upon being prodded if he would have to downsize anything, Harvick said, “Everything. We wanted to live the last two years and try to fit that in the window of saying, ‘Here’s the budget that we will have, and here’s what we need to do, and here’s the things that you need to change along the way’, so it wasn’t culture shock.” Through the effort of simulation, the icon revealed that he gained crucial awareness. Davis then asked him what he learned through the process. Harvick quipped back, “That I spent too much money”, and sent the co-host rolling in laughter.
