Austin Cindric clinched victory at the NASCAR Xfinity race at the Daytona road course. However, there was an awkward incident involving himself and Chase Briscoe. Apparently, he flung a water bottle at his rival during the race. This took place during one of the cautions, and he and Briscoe were alongside each other.

Following the win, he spoke to Alan Cavanna about the race from his perspective. Cindric now has the honor of being the inaugural winner of the Daytona road course Xfinity race. Cindric defended himself, saying that the bottle never made it inside the car so it did not count.

He said, “I didn’t do a good job, so I just looked stupid. I think I did a better job of looking stupid. That’s why I never played basketball.”

Cindric recounted how his father was good at basketball when he was in college. Unfortunately, Cindric and his brother did not inherit that talent.

Cavanna noted that it was a very hot day so that bottle could have made a difference. The 21-year-old then quoted F1 driver, Max Verstappen, and said, “make sure you keep hydrated.”

How did Austin Cindric win the race?

The driver avoided a fair amount of chaos and crashes to win at the Daytona International Speedway road course. It is also worth noting that this is his fifth victory in the last six races, and he passed Brandon Jones for the lead with five laps to go.

However, a few laps earlier, several cars drifted wide at Turn 1 during one of the restarts. Among the helpless drivers was Chase Briscoe, who ran into the back of AJ Allmendinger’s car.

The latter found himself squeezed out by another car and subsequently knocked off the track. That spelled doom for Briscoe’s race and relegated him down to 29th.

Meanwhile, Brandon Jones took advantage of the chaos to rocket up from seventh to first. He helped himself to a 2nd place finish behind Cindric.
