During the interview, Wallace openly discussed his mistakes and their consequences, acknowledging that they have hindered his progress in the 2023 season. He expresses a determination to maximize the potential he has got. He also highlighted the intensity of the format and the need for every driver to strive for valuable points.
Here’s how the interview went down.
The interviewer asked Bubba. “You are top 16 in points right now, but with the #9 car being behind you gaining so many points each week. Does that make you feel like you’re not really in the top #16?”
Bubba replied, “No, we’re 15th, we have just made a lot of mistakes. I’ve made a lot of mistakes last few weeks, and it cost us a lot. So, this format has produced… uh…us going out, and all of us going out and being competitive and trying to get as many points as we can. So I have to do a better job at that.”

Throughout the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series, Wallace has faced significant challenges, resulting in a somewhat disappointing season thus far. Despite occasional glimpses of potential, he acknowledges that consistent mistakes have hindered his progress and affected his position in the standings.
Currently ranked 15th with 387 points, Wallace’s best finish in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series was a commendable second place in the NASCAR Cup Series ALL-STAR RACE (which doesn’t even pay points to the drivers). Thus far, Bubba has only 4 Top 5 finishes and 5 Top 10 finishes. He also has 5 DNFs to his name which is always a bad thing for the driver.
