A long and fruitful partnership between Josh Berry and JR Motorsports ended with the conclusion of the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season. The 33-year-old spent the last couple of seasons driving full-time for the team, picking up three victories during that time. But from next season, Berry will be a full-time Cup Series driver for Stewart-Haas Racing, replacing the legendary Kevin Harvick.
Throughout his duration with Dale Earnhardt Jr’s team in the Xfinity Series, Josh Berry picked up five wins but was never able to win the championship. His move to NASCAR’s highest division will be a big deal for his career but the Tennessee-born driver has regrets about leaving JRM, one of which he revealed recently.

On a recent episode of the NASCAR LIVE podcast, Josh Berry spoke about his time with Dale Earnhardt Jr’s team. He looked back fondly on the times when they earned accolades. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver also spoke about how he was thankful to Dale Earnhardt Jr, Kelley Earnhardt-Miller, and everyone else with the team for allowing him to race for them.
“It was a lot of emotions there. That chapter of my life kind of closed, I guess. I’m just really thankful for my time there. We accomplished a lot of amazing things over the course of a decade plus. Not just in the last couple of years but a lot of things we accomplished from when I started working for JR Motorsports and racing with them. It was just a super good experience and I owe a lot to everybody there. Dale and Kelley, everybody that’s a part of that place. I owe a lot to them for the opportunities they’ve given me,” Berry said.
However, having regrets is something almost every single athlete in the world has to deal with and Josh Berry is no different. In this case, he expressed his disappointment over not having a good enough season. He failed to win a single race in the 2023 Xfinity Series and finished P11 on the points table.
“You know, I hate that our Xfinity side of things didn’t go better this year than it did. I kind of like keep telling myself that we had a lot of really, really amazing years and a lot of really good things happened and unfortunately, this year just didn’t quite end like we wanted,” the former JRM driver added.
Junior himself is a massive fan of Josh Berry’s work as he has admitted in the past. However, the former Cup Series driver believes that Berry will have multiple moments of doubt and uncertainty during his first full-time season in the Cup Series.

“I’m a Josh Berry fan. Y’all know that I want that to go well. There will be some moments of struggle. There will be times when Josh Berry’s going, ‘Dude, do I have what it takes? Do I belong here? Do I have the fortitude to go forward?’ There will be some dark, dark moments in that first year. There are for every driver,” the JRM owner said.
