As the popular saying goes, health is wealth, and it certainly is. With a healthy body and mind, one can achieve anything he or she sets their mind to. Now, does that last statement look a bit far-fetched? Absolutely not. Even the GOAT in a sport has always kept a close watch over one’s health to be at the top of their game, and NASCAR’s 7-time Cup Series champion, Dale Earnhardt, is no different in that aspect.
Speaking on the recent Dale Jr. Download podcast, The Intimidator’s son and NASCAR’s heartthrob revealed how he adopted his father’s principle after being diagnosed with a severe infection. The old-school driver, like his father, did exactly what he would do to get back on his field.

For the newbie fans of the sport who got into the sport because of the great Jimmie Johnson, before JJ seized the throne and got his iconic rivalry with Jeff Gordon, there was one other name that sent chills down the spines of their competitors. Dale Earnhardt, or “The Intimidator,” as they call him, was simply a force to be reckoned with on the track. The sight of his #3 Jet Black RCR Chevy on the rearview mirrors is enough to get drivers in front of him to review their options.
Even after his untimely death in 2001, the legendary status of Earnhardt still burns in the hearts of old-school fans. Now, how does one stay on top of their game for such a long time, especially in such a brutal sport? Well, the answer is quite simple; as we’ve mentioned above, a healthy body and a sound mind will get one beyond the imaginable.
There’s no questioning the late great’s mind; his uncanny ability to impose his will on the field and his iron will have inspired many drivers, prompting them to adopt his style of racing. Recently, Dale Jr., speaking on his popular podcast series, revealed another fascinating aspect of the late driver’s life that highlighted his old-school mentality.
Feel pretty disappointed I won’t be at work today on the @NASCARonNBC broadcast. Picked up a fever on the way home last night and it just broke this morning. This race is going to be entertaining and I’ll miss enjoying it today with my friends at NBC.

In a world drugged with prescription pills and whatnot, Earnhardt was never the kind of man to take pills as a medication. Instead, he would just rely on penicillin shots rather than taking a load of pills for the month. Days after he fell sick, getting diagnosed with Pneumonia in his right Lung, and missed the action, Dale Jr did exactly what his father would, which was to take a shot instead of the meds.

He said, “The doctor comes in after the X-rays and she goes, hey, man you got Pneumonia in your right lung and I was like, really? I’ve never had Pneumonia and she’s like yeah, you got Pneumonia. We’re going to do this, put you on this, put you on this, so there’s like 4 meds, I got shot in the a** which is always, I’m always okay with that because and I’ll tell you why the shot in the a** doesn’t bother me. Started the meds right away by the next morning, I was a whole lot better and every day since I’ve gotten you know just leaps better.”
