Last week, former NASCAR driver and JR Motorsports owner Dale Earnhardt Jr visited the Allenbrook Elementary school kids with a surprise book reading of ‘Buster’s Trip to Victory Lane.’ However, Earnhardt Jr soon realized that there was something nerve-wracking waiting for him there.
Allenbrook Elementary School is the same educational institution that received a $135,000 donation from the Dale Jr Foundation and its partnership with Unilever’s United for America campaign. Hence, Earnhardt Jr chose the organization for a surprise reading of the book he authored.
However, little did he know that he was about to go through a whirlwind of emotions while delivering the surprise.

Here’s what made Dale Earnhardt Jr ‘nervous’
Having survived concussions, and years of racing alongside the most competitive drivers in the sport, there isn’t much that might trouble Dale Earnhardt Jr, But when it comes to presenting a creation in a room full of kids, not many, including Earnhardt Jr can know what’s coming for them.
As reported by WCNC Charlotte, explaining how he was worried about not being able to connect with the kids, the JR Motorsports owner said, “I get more nervous about that than I do standing up in front of a crowd of race fans or in any kind of big function.”
“And you just want them to connect somehow to the book and you hope that they’re interested in what you’re going to share with them that day.”
Moreover, Earnhardt Jr revealed what exactly motivated him to still go through the reading.
He said, “I think the funnest part about it is sitting in front of kids and reading it to them. And using inflection and trying to drive home certain points in the story and certain things that the characters say is a lot of fun.”

While talking about how children, including his daughter, inspired his writing process, Earnhardt Jr said, “And so I thought ‘man, I wonder if I can write a book that a kid wants to be read to multiple nights in a row. And so we ended up creating a storyline. We chose the artists, we read every line, and changed whatever word we wanted about the story.”
All Buster fans will soon be seeing their favorite character once again. In his upcoming creation ‘Buster Gets Back on Track,’ Earnhardt Jr aims to share another important life lesson that can help his readers to get back on the right track.
