Richard Childress is a household name in the world of NASCAR. In fact, he has time and again shown why he is one of the wealthiest men in North Carolina. While signing Kyle Busch for the 2023 season has turned out a great move for his Cup Series team, Childress recently made a similar move. However, the deal has confused the minds of a NASCAR member.
Having been in the industry for more than five decades, the 77-year-old certainly has had his moments. While Childress continues to strengthen his teams for the future, his recent move brought immense relief to the fans.

After a lot of speculation, Austin Hill signed a multi-year contract extension to drive for Richard Childress Racing in the Xfinity Series. It was satisfying news as the 29-year-old was linked with a move to a number of Cup Series teams. Fortunately for the RCR fans, Hill was tied down for the future.

While it is good news, Brett Griffin had some concerns with the deal. Speaking on the Door Bumper Clear podcast, he said, “I don’t know what the f**k he signed but here’s what I hope he signed. I hope he signed a multi-year agreement at RCR and in the event he gets approached with a full-time Cup [Series] opportunity and RCR cannot match it, Austin Hill has the ability to leave.”
At the same time, Griffin gave a brief idea of the rumors linking Hill to different teams. He said, “Yes, he was talking to other things, yes, one of them was Kaulig like he had talked to other manufacturer teams and it didn’t work out for him because a lot of times when you are a rookie, you’re gonna have a financial backing to make it make sense, not everybody will go out and sign the next big thing.”
While the NASCAR veteran explained that Chase Briscoe and Kyle Larson were lucky to get an entry without strong commercial banking, he indicated that the same is not true for every driver. However, he couldn’t help but give his verdict on Hill’s decision to stick with RCR and continue in the Xfinity Series.

Hill continued, “As of right now, it is structured for Xfinity for the next two years, but there again, things could change and the way the contract is structured and all, it could obviously change. Maybe at the end of next year we might have a better understanding of where we might be.”
