Over a month has passed since Kyle Busch stirred the racing world by revealing a significant shift in ownership for his championship Craftsman Truck Series team, set to take effect in 2024. In a notable announcement made in September 2023, Busch disclosed that Kyle Busch Motorsports, which he had helmed with notable success, was acquired by Spire Motorsports for an undisclosed sum.
Spire Motorsports, known for its multi-car operation in the NASCAR Cup Series and a part-time presence in the Truck Series, will now be at the helm of this esteemed team. While Kyle Busch might harbor some sadness over relinquishing control of the team, it appears the decision has been even more challenging for Samantha Busch. She recently opened up about the toll the change has taken, providing a glimpse into the personal side of these high-stakes racing decisions.

In the wake of Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) sale to Spire Motorsports, Samantha Busch, just a month ago, shared a poignant message reflecting on their shared journey. This significant development in the NASCAR world marked the end of an era for Kyle Busch, who has been a stalwart of the division for over 14 seasons and is now parting ways with a team that has been a key part of his racing legacy. KBM’s remarkable story includes a string of seven owner championships in the Truck Series, earning the team a special place in the hearts of racing fans globally.
Samantha Busch turned to Instagram to express her feelings, fondly recalling the early days of their adventure when they were just “babies” starting in the racing world. She wrote in her post, “We were babies when we started this journey and never could have imagined the amazingly successful organization we would build in KBM. We can’t thank all of the employees for their hard work and dedication and of course to their families for always supporting them behind the scenes over the years. Thank you to all of our sponsors and partners as well for always believing in KBM.
“It’s been so special to watch Kyle have success here and to see so many young drivers start their debuts with us. We have formed many friendships over the years, have great memories at this place and will always be grateful for the success we were able to accomplish. This place has been home to my boutique, a place where the Bundle of Joy Fund has been created (don’t worry it’s not going anywhere!) and these hallways have had our children running up and down them popping into everyone’s office since the beginning. We will miss it, it will always be a special time in our lives. We know tho at this point in life that this is the right time and decision for us to step back and be able to enjoy life as a family.”
Her message paid tribute to the dedication and hard work of the KBM employees and their families, whose support was instrumental behind the scenes over the years. She expressed gratitude to those who placed their faith in KBM, contributing significantly to its storied success. However, the journey is still not over for Samantha. Even after nearly a month and a half, she still finds herself overwhelmed by the task of sorting through the remaining KBM memorabilia. On her Instagram story also, she shared her exhaustion, saying, “Day number—I don’t even know anymore. Stuck in a storage closet, cleaning out binders, and all sorts of stuff. I am very much over packing up KBM.”

In a conversation with Sirius XM NASCAR Radio, Kyle Busch unraveled the story behind Kyle Busch Motorsports’ sale (KBM) to Spire Motorsports. He recalled telling Spire, who expressed interest in acquiring KBM’s state-of-the-art equipment, “Spire was involved in that conversation. They wanted to buy the KBM stuff and use it, and they wanted the updated latest, greatest everything. And I said, ‘Well, this is all not happening.’ Like it’s all not working. I said, ‘You know what? If you want that truck, you just buy the whole thing and you do it yourself’.”
To Busch’s surprise, Spire revisited the offer two weeks later, ready to clinch the deal, leaving him ‘dumbfounded,’ as he hadn’t expected them to take up his proposition. Despite the successful sale, he described the experience as “very bittersweet.”
