Ever since surprising the world with his maiden victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last week. Josh Berry has been the target of every journalist, every reporter, and everyone else. While you might think the Wood Brother Racing driver might enjoy this media attention. In a recent interview, Berry revealed that he is fed up with the media attention on him but not for the reason you might think.

So as it turns out Josh Berry went to high school with the pop music sensation, Taylor Swift and the media doesn’t let him forget this. Everywhere he goes, there’s a link between him and the pop sensation. It started out as a big coincidence, but it seems as if it’s going overboard. And the WBR driver has had enough of it.

Even NASCAR seemed to have chimed in on the trend after his win when they mentioned Berry’s connection with Swift in an Instagram reel. While the driver is frustrated over the question about his story with Swift, the same cannot be said for his former schoolmate.

Josh Berry’s Celebrity Overload

In a recent conversation with Spider from Rubbin Is Racing podcast, Berry revealed that he often finds himself cornered by this question wherever he goes now, “It is a funny story it’s one of those things when you’re like doing an interview one day and somebody’s like hey what’s a funny crazy story about you, right? And I’m like, Oh I went to school with Taylor Swift and you don’t think that’s that big of a deal but I mean good gosh man every time it never ends,” Berry revealed in the interview, talking once again about his connection with Taylor Swift, much to his displeasure.

Josh Berry further revealed that questions about him and Swift increased ever since she became involved with NFL star, Travis Kelce. “Then she starts dating Travis Kelce and it all comes back again and I’m like I don’t care about Travis Kelce like I don’t, it never ends,” said Berry further revealing his displeasure on being asked again and again about something he has no involvement in. This distant connection that he has with Taylor Swift has potentially overshadowed his significant success in NASCAR.

In a surprising turn of events, Berry further revealed that he also went to middle school with 2-time Indianapolis 500 winner, Team Penske driver Josef Newgarden. And unlike Swift, Berry cherrishes his connection with his former schoolmate. The interesting part about their equation is that both of them didn’t knew that they were into racing during their schooling days. Now FOX certainly has done a good job in promoting IndyCar’s star driver, perhaps NASCAR media could do something about our star drivers as well.

“Josef [Newgarden] is somebody that I’ve had a ton of respect for obviously you know got to do some work with him over the offseason through one of our mutual partners which is PPG. We actually went back to Hendersonville where I’m from. We went to the middle school together…And it’s funny with Josef because really we were kind of both in school at the same time but really didn’t know each of us raced, right like he didn’t really know I raced, I didn’t really know he raced,” Berry added.

The Story of Humble Beginnings

Ever since his first kart at a young age, Berry dreamt of being a race car driver as he competed in his local racing leagues. But it wasn’t always smooth sailing for Berry, as he worked as a Bank Teller to fund his racing dreams, which were not going smoothly as he was almost broke racing Legends cars, “We had no funding and probably were going to have to quit racing, at least temporally.

While juggling racing and his job at the bank, he was also attending college at Volunteer State Community College. And that’s where he met NASCAR royalty, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his life turned around. A journey that started with sim racing landed him in a gig with Dale Jr.’s Late Model racing program. Little did he know back then that one day, this would help him live his dream of winning a Cup Series race.

I was in the right place at the right time…Dale [Earnhardt Jr.] gave me an opportunity to test the late model at Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia. That went well and turned into a couple of races and then I moved to North Carolina,” this connection with Earnhardt Jr. proved vital for Berry and he was signed by JR Motorsports in 2010 and well rest, as they say, is history.

He was just excited. He said he was enjoying it at the end and wanted it to stay green.”

As Berry continues to build his story and write his name in the history books, his story serves as an inspiration and even an example of the power of hard work and perseverance.
