According to The Athletic, Jimmie Johnson is in talks with Richard Petty’s Petty GMS Racing. The seven-time Cup Series champion is reportedly finalizing an agreement to acquire an ownership stake in the team.
Furthermore, it is suspected that as per the agreement, Johnson will be returning to drive part-time in the 2023 Cup Series season. The Athletic’s Motorsports reporter, Jordan Bianchi shared the news on his official Twitter handle.
And as soon as NASCAR fans came across this revelation about their favorite athlete’s return, it was clear that they couldn’t keep calm. As a result, they shared their thoughts by commenting below Bianchi’s post.
Excited about the news, some NASCAR fans discussed how this would help Petty GMS bring forth their A-game. Moreover, some others talked about how they always believed that Johnson would return to the tracks with Hendrick Motorsports. While there were also a few who discussed the benefits Jimmy’s leadership might have on the current and future Petty GMS drivers like Noah Gragson and Erik Jones.
Now we just need Dale's ghost to join the team and we have the ultimate NASCAR team

Hendrick give up the 48 and RCR give up the 3. GMS racing becomes 7-Time Racing or 7X Racing and they run the 3, 43, and 48. Tell me that wouldn’t be badass for the sport to see.

Just think of the mentorship now available to Erik and Noah.

Since NASCAR owns the all the numbers, would they preference Jimmie Johnson for #48 over Hendrick?

Really???
I didn't see that one coming…I thought maybe he'd buy into trackhouse or hendrick if he was going to buy into a team

So a 7x champ buying into a team owned by another 7x champ. I like it. It's a long shot to say the least but I'd love to see them both go out and get an 8th title as co-owners. 🏆🏁

So Noah's career car owners are going to be Earnhardt, Richard Petty and Jimmie Johnson!?

This makes me a very happy fan. Always been a JJ fan and I can only imagine this is gonna be a good connection with Hendrick Motorsports knowing his connections. This is a win for Petty GMS
