Bubba Wallace is racing for arguably the coolest team in NASCAR. A team co-owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan and JGR driver Denny Hamlin. Trying to improve the team’s efficiency and completing one of the biggest projects, the team recently completed the construction of their new workshop. Or, as they like to call it, “Airspeed.”

The state-of-the-art facility is located in Huntersville, North Carolina. Ditching the two shop setups from their previous location, the team and drivers will now make Airspeed their second home. However, despite the swanky, cool establishment, Bubba Wallace is not too pleased with the relocation of the new headquarters and goes on to take a hilarious jibe at his boss, Denny Hamlin.

The new 23XI team building, “Airspeed,” is located in Huntersville, North Carolina. Given the massive upgrades and scale of the project, it is indeed an exciting prospect for the team moving forward. And given that, the last NASCAR racing shop was built some 18 years ago, this is a mega move by the team.

In a recent interview with Bob Pockrass, Wallace explained how his commute time has not changed a bit, since moving into the new facility. While also sharing the excitement of working in a new setup. “Well, it’s still new, so ask me in six months, but the drive to shop in Mooreville was 25 minutes from my house. So the new shop, Airpeed, is 24 minutes away.

And I enjoy being there much longer and have no problem driving that drive. If you ask me to go to Moorseville, nah I’m sick; I’ll call in.” Wallace then went on to express how the factor of newness will greatly contribute to the people working at 23XI. “People like new things, people like shiny things to touch, feel, and smell, and that’s what Airspeed provides. So it’s really cool; people are thriving there, all our employees; it’s shaping up for a good year, so we’re excited.”

Bob asked him whether he would listen to Hamlin’s podcast if the drive to Airspeed was now a shorter one. In reply, Wallace once again jokingly said, “He has a podcast; I didn’t even know.” With the new shop in place, Wallace and Reddick will also welcome their third team member, piloting the No. 67 ride later this month.

The Japanese driver, Kobayashi, will make his second NASCAR Cup Series start at the Circuits of Americas with 23XI, driving a third Toyota Camry alongside his teammates, Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick. Interestingly, Kamui Kobayashi made his previous appearance at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. So it does make sense to bring the driver in for the COTA race, as it is this season’s first road course race.

The 23XI had long been teasing about the feature of the #67 car, and now they have finally revealed their plans for the ride this season. Kobayashi managed to secure a #33 finish last time he raced in the Cup Series, and with this season’s feature, he will look to support his teammate Tyler Reddick, who is eyeing a repeat of his winning performance at the racetrack from last year.

It will be interesting to see how well the 23XI team utilizes fielding three cars at the COTA race. This race could potentially see one of the two full-time drivers secure the playoff spot with a win. Going by the track record since the start of the season, both Wallace and Reddick will be backing themselves to get the win.
