The constant drive to meet its growing audience’s demands has pushed NASCAR to evolve drastically over the years. This growth has not only expanded the horizon of its elite division but has pushed the organization’s other lower-ranking factions such as the Xfinity and Truck Series to push the envelope, becoming more popular with the masses and even challenging the elite division at times. And yet, there are avenues to pursue for the sport.
Not all of the sanctioning body’s efforts have gone in a positive direction. Recently, NASCAR veteran and proud Xfinity Series team owner, Dale Earnhardt Jr mentioned his concerns, highlighting what the future might hold for the series.

While the organization is going full steam with its future ventures across its three divisions, NBC commentator and JR Motorsports co-owner, Dale Jr has publically come out to share his skepticism regarding the Xfinity series.
Speaking to fellow veteran, Kenny Wallace on “The Kenny Wallace Conversation”, the two-time Daytona winner shared his doubts. Amidst the discussion of NASCAR’s ambitious future plans and the ongoing development of its Next-Gen platform, the 49-year-old became vocal about the “internal debate” while laying the facts down on the table.
The JRM co-owner said, “I think the Xfinity Series is great, there is a big debate internally about what the identity of Xfinity Series will be. Where will this series be in 5 years, 10 years from now.
“Obviously I care deeply about that because I’m an owner in the series. You know, what is NASCAR. What do the new TV deals look like. Who is involved in those TV deals. How will that affect our popularity and who can see our sport. All of those things have everybody a bit on the edge of the next probably 24 months. But once all of that is in the rearview mirror we can sort of focus back on competition and try to put on amazing races.”
Amidst the development of its short-track packages, incorporating the Next-Gen platform, NASCAR as per Dale Jr has stated, “Everything is on the table, including horsepower,” quoting the Chief Operating Officer of the organization, Steve O Donnell. This revelation comes in lieu of drivers demanding more power in their cars as they find it tough to pass each other on the field, especially in half-a-mile tracks like Martinsville and Bristol.
Dale Jr knowing the ins and outs of NASCAR even today is not surprising. Especially considering how he still takes to behind the wheel.
