The streak of bad luck seems to continue for ThorSport Racing driver Hailie Deegan, even at Charlotte Motor Speedway. A week after a contentious encounter with Dean Thompson at the NWB Speedway, the race in Charlotte on Friday came as retribution for the #13 Ford driver. This also resulted in facing the wrath of the audience, although this time, it was not Deegan who was the cause of the ruckus.
The Truck Series, after delivering some quality racing at the North Wilkesboro Speedway, also furnished a high-intensity battle for the checkered. And it was Deegan’s teammate, Ben Rhodes, who clinched the flag. But it was the wreck in Lap 90 that received the most attention.

Friday’s Truck Series race witnessed the dominance of the 2021 champion Ben Rhodes. He seized his first victory of the season after fighting neck-to-neck in a pesky battle with Carson Hocevar, to take his truck to the victory lane.
The race saw quite a number of cautions, with the major one being issued in Lap 90 when the defending champion Zane Smith lost control of his #38 Ford at Turn 4. This led to him spinning off the track and eventually collecting Hailie Deegan with him.
Deegan, on the inside, had no chance of escaping the wreck and suffered substantial damage to her car on the right side.
Although the #13 driver tried to crawl back into the race, she did face some serious issues with her truck. And could be heard on her radio venting her frustration. Veteran journalist Bob Pockrass later shared an intercepted radio message, “Deegan: “I can’t get it to go straight.”

Deegan’s comment was out of frustration as her truck wasn’t in the best of shape after the wreck. Die-hard racing enthusiasts, on the contrary, took a sarcastic jab and blamed the driver and her poor driving skills for the incident.
Taking a jibe, one of them wrote, “That’s what she said!”
While others wrote, “She’s doing it wrong, is my guess.”

Although the comments have been jeering in nature and may have been used in jest, however, the drivers certainly would not welcome the unwanted hatred that is hurled at them. Seeing that such on-field contacts are quite common, especially in the ultra-aggressive Truck Series, many consider that the incidents are certainly not the markers of a driver’s racing capabilities.
