Aside from moving to the Next Gen car from the Gen 6, arguably the second biggest move in the NASCAR Cup Series from 2021 to 2022 was Brad Keselowski leaving Team Penske for Roush-Fenway Keselowski Racing. But this also begged the question in many’s minds: Why did Brad Keselowski leave Penske?

After all, there were no rifts or disagreements, on the surface at least.

But in a recent interview, Keselowski’s revelations weaken that notion a little bit. And more specifically, the one reason that the former Penske driver mentioned last could’ve been the final nail in the coffin.

Staying coy while revealing enough, Keselowski said, “I can’t bullshit it, but the timing’s not right to fully disclose it….there was some other pieces that happened behind the scenes with some contract negotiations that I was having with Penske.”

However, he also mentioned that had he not moved to RFK, it would’ve still been fine, better than fine.

“I could’ve stayed working for him and ran out my career, without a doubt and it would’ve been very good,” the RFK driver said.

What drives Brad Keselowski?

Keselowski, who is undoubtedly very religious, very spiritual, mentioned how all these reasons were like God telling him to take the opportunity. And if he didn’t, he’d feel like he’s “missing out.”

As for what drives him, he answered, “To live up to the potential that I feel I’ve been given.”

His self-assessment determined him to have the potential of a racecar driver and of a leader. And for one reason or the other, the latter wasn’t working out at his former team.

“I feel like my situation at hand when I was at Team Penske didn’t give me an opportunity to fully recognize that potential,” he said. “I had the opportunity to recognize a lot of it, but not…all the way.”

Brad Keselowski has proven his potential as a driver many times in the past already.

However, now it remains to be seen whether his potential as a leader comes to fruition, especially when he’s also tasked with showing his potential as a driver once again in his career.
