For Alex Bowman, the 2023 Cup Series season was one to forget. The Hendrick Motorsports star displayed a strong performance at the start of the season, earning 7 top-10 finishes in the first 10 races of the season. However, owing to an injury, the driver was sidelined for the next 3 races. Since then, things were just not the same. The #48 failed to win a single race and did not make it into the playoffs.
Bowman suffered a fractured vertebra in Kyle Larson’s High Limit Racing series in West Burlington, Iowa. The 30-year-old was the points leader in the Cup Series before he sustained the injury and when he made his return, he found himself down in 17th place. It was not an ideal scenario and the HMS star just could not recover from the setback.

In a recent interview on SiriusXM Radio, the driver of the #48 revealed that he has learned from his past mistakes and won’t be doing anything similar from 2024. Alex Bowman has missed several races due to injury in the past couple of years and will be looking for a good showing in 2024 to get his career back on track.
“I’ve missed 10 Cup races in the last 2 years through injury for Ally and Hendrick Motorsports and Chevrolet and everybody that put so much in the #48 car. I can’t afford to miss more races. I need to be in the car every week and look at what it did to us this year. We go from being extremely strong every week and upfront in points and all that to a tough rest of the year. I don’t need to do that again,” the 30-year-old said.
Bowman later mentioned that no matter what he did on the side, his main job was to race in the Cup Series and give his everything to winning that competition. Unfortunately, he has not been able to do so for the past couple of years.
“My job on Sunday is super important to me and unfortunately this year, I was doing something for fun that greatly took away from what I do on Sundays and I’m gonna avoid that going forward,” Bowman added.

The World of Outlaws title is a prestigious title to win and a lot of drivers have the dream of winning that competition. Alex Bowman is the same, but for now, his focus lies solely on Hendrick Motorsports and the NASCAR Cup Series.
I won’t be in a sprint car for the foreseeable future. I would say when I’m done Cup racing…to be honest with you, I would love to do the Outlaw tour when I’m done Cup racing. But it’s just gonna be something that I push off until I’m at that point in my life where it’s what I want to do and it’s not going to take away from anything else,” the 30-year-old added.
