Back-to-back wins! The overtime restart was full of drama as Justin Allgaier ran away from the pack toward the end of Saturday’s Hard Rock Bet 300 in the Xfinity Series. Homestead-Miami hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the JR Motorsports driver over the years, who recorded a top-five finish at the 1.5-mile oval for the first time in his career. However, it also looked like Kyle Larson was robbed of a potential win, as the Hendrick Motorsports star led 132 laps, only to settle for a fourth-place finish.

Being in the right place at the right time helped Allgaier, who was all too happy to take advantage of the overtime restart. However, the triumph was bittersweet for the reigning champion, who expressed his regret despite winning a significant sum of prize money.

Did Justin Allgaier snatch a victory from Larson?

It looked like Kyle Larson’s day. The 2021 Cup Series winner had a 15-second lead going into the closing stages of the race, while Justin Allgaier was running behind the Hendrick Motorsports driver, Sam Mayer, and Austin Hill with just eight laps to go. However, a late overtime restart proved to be the difference maker, as Larson’s poor launch, caused partly by making contact with the No. 41 Ford, saw his race win slip away.

Justin Allgaier had bittersweet emotions, despite securing a memorable triumph at Homestead-Miami in his 27th Xfinity Series win of his career. Reflecting on it in the post-race interview, the 38-year-old said, “I was actually bummed to see the caution come out, it worked out in our favor. I am bummed that I maybe got the triple from Kyle, cause I think he’s gonna have a great shot at it tomorrow. But we were at the right place at the right time, and we’re really proud of this race team.”

Well, Larson was on the path to the weekend sweep after winning the Truck Series race ahead of Corey Heim yesterday, but Allgaier swooped in and denied him. In a cruel twist of fate, Larson suffered what he made Heim go through yesterday. Heim led the most laps (78) at Homestead and finished 3rd to Larson, while the HMS driver led the most laps today (132) but had to settle for a fourth-place finish. While Larson repented what could have been, Allgaier was taking home a six-figure check!

The Dash4Cash bonus at Homestead Miami Speedway in the Xfinity Series was a battle between Austin Hill, Justin Allgaier, Sam Mayer, and Jesse Love. After winning the race and the bonus, Allgaier added, “It feels great cause I forgot that was even a thing today,” he said, chuckling. The reigning Xfinity Series champion got a $100,000 bonus for winning the Xfinity Dash4Cash Award after a blistering restart saw him breeze past everyone. Justin Allgaier’s No. 7 Chevy was like a rocket ship when the race resumed, and despite how crowded the track was when the action restarted, the JR Motorsports driver quickly managed to get the distance between himself and his competitors.

After qualifying for the race in fourth place, Allgaier dropped to sixth at the end of Stage 1, and eighth by the end of the second stage. However, despite securing some valuable points, the racer nearly lost it all after being penalized for driving through too many pit stalls. It’s a testament to his experience that the Illinois native managed to get back into the top five through sheer relentlessness and hard work. Even though the No. 7 Chevy was noticeably slower than Larson’s No. 17, a shrewd move in the closing laps sealed the deal for the reigning Xfinity Series champion.

Kyle Larson heartbroken by Homestead-Miami outcome

A missed opportunity. That’s how Kyle Larson will be viewing the 2025 Hard Rock Bet 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. ‘Yung Money’ had lapped nearly the entire field as the race was coming to a close and had momentum on his side after his Truck Series triumph at the same venue. However, despite building a healthy lead after dominating the majority of the 201 lap event, everything changed when Taylor Gray’s spin brought about a caution with just eight laps to go.

Reflecting on the race’s outcome, Larson said, “Yeah, disappointed probably. Like, I’ve been here 7-8 times or more. Yeah, just, I wish it would still green. For some reason, nobody keeps straight in the races when I’m leading. I thought we’ll still have a good shot to win. I think had I got the normal launch on the front stretch, we would have been fine.”

The disappointment was evident. This is the third time Kyle Larson has dominated an Xfinity Series race at Homestead-Miami by leading more than 100 laps, but he has only one triumph to show for it. The Hendrick Motorsports driver blamed Haas Factory Team’s Sam Mayer for the outcome, saying that he “slammed the s— out of me.” Ultimately, the California native’s loss was Justin Allgaier’s gain, as the JR Motorsports driver went on to extend his advantage in the driver’s standings with 249 points.
